Don't like Acustica and pulltec is for angry granddads. Come to think of it, I guess I prefer the sound of digital. I'll throw some True Iron on, but otherwise there's not a lot of 'analog' going on in my mix chain, definitely not on my entire mix.

GotoEQ - Hardware-style Dynamic EQ

I find it useful for finding resonant frequencies.
They don't allow license transfers, you've been warned!

Seems to be a lot of ageism creeping into kvr, these days.

Now you make it sound like there's something wrong with being an angry granddad?Googly Smythe wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 8:42 pmSeems to be a lot of ageism creeping into kvr, these days.

I challenge any 20-something to try Pultec on their "fire beats" and tell us if they feel icky about using Boomer gearGoogly Smythe wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 8:42 pmSeems to be a lot of ageism creeping into kvr, these days.

Hey, it's okay.. we can all like different stuff.MogwaiBoy wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 8:49 pm I challenge any 20-something to try Pultec on their "fire beats" and tell us if they feel icky about using Boomer gear![]()
I just don't have any use for it. This whole approach where I have to rely on specific pieces of 'gear' (well.. plugins) for sound and 'character' (whatever that is) doesn't work for me. It's not precise enough and I don't want to have to audition like 10 plugins to find the right tone. I have a ton of other ways to add saturation if I want and I'm not looking for a vintage sound anyway. Definitely not a simulated one. So even your most boomerific pulteq emulation is still gonna look like a fairly limited and imprecise equalizer with a clunky interface to me.

But saying "imprecise" - there is some truth in that, as ofcourse you can dial in whatever exact curves you want with a digital parametric.

Sure, I just don't like that approach where I have million one trick pony effects. I rather have one big flexible effect and generally don't need anything I can't get from basic compression, eq, maybe a multiband compressor for wild problematic sounds. I rarely need the bass and treble treatment pultec is so famed for.MogwaiBoy wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 9:31 pm Re: Clunky - It takes about 2 clicks to get here, and these curves are timeless...

I'm not usually a huge fan of Plugin Alliance stuff but I have to say that the Knif Soma EQ plugin is exceptionally well done. It's the one I reach the most when going for a very "analogue" gentle type of EQ. It's perhaps a bit too gentle for many applications but when you just want to give things a bit of "fluffy goodness" at certain frequencies, it delivers.

So I should just sit back and be insulted? By someone who has also used the phase "old farts of kvr"?lwj wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 8:47 pmNow you make it sound like there's something wrong with being an angry granddad?Googly Smythe wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 8:42 pmSeems to be a lot of ageism creeping into kvr, these days.

havent read this latest kvargument but in general there are a lot of angry grandads with pitchforks on kvr, often talking about 'the good old days', but theres also a lot of chill grandads who just like music, i dont think grandad is an offensive term though
