I was referring to the part where you said "granddad" wasn't an offensive term, but it depends on context. UAD Chandler Limited Curvebender is pretty nice. More subtle than the EQP-1A, but tasteful.
The Maag EQ4 Air Band also opens things nicely. And the low end (Sub and 40Hz) on this plugin work well too.
