Sounds ok to me. They are free to do whatever they please and the market is free to react to whatever that is.pekbro wrote: Thu Apr 14, 2022 1:57 am To me this doesn't really bode well for the market, they just want to put a ton of content under one banner and one subscription service. Because in the end that's what they want from you, so they can have regular quantifiable revenue.
I agree. This has been coming for some time now though. I'm not surprised and also not impressed.pekbro wrote: Thu Apr 14, 2022 1:57 am To me this doesn't really bode well for the market, they just want to put a ton of content under one banner and one subscription service. this is more and more what bigger (and some smaller) companies are doing. everything is a _service_ and they want to rent it to people so no one actually owns anything. internet is required for all of it and it's otherwise impossible to take part in creating "content" w/o first buying in to their business model. if they could run it all in the cloud and store your content there too then they would and maybe that's where all this is heading. you buy/rent a terminal and that accesses your private little chunk of the cloud (meta verse) where you can spend time making content for that metaverse.ghettosynth wrote: Thu Apr 14, 2022 2:13 amI agree. Actually guitars and rock influence is a growing trend in popular music.martinjuenke wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 5:38 pm These genres are appreciated primarily by grumpy old white men (which is the main tribe here in the forum), but these in-the-past-everything-was better-guys are obviously no longer relevant from a business perspective. You have to deal with it![]()
You mean all the stuff I don't need? Or all the stuff you buy every year, rave about for a week then forget about when something new and shiny comes along?BONES wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 11:31 pmExcept I now have a laptop that can run all the plugins last year's struggled with. You know, the shit you miss out on by being a cantankerous old fart who's stuck in a rut so deep you can't even see out of it any more.AnX wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 7:50 amIf you didn't buy a new laptop every year for no reason, you could save much more time than that.
I can‘t tell if you‘re joking. The context doesn‘t indicate irony… unless you‘re happy with AIR, which Autocorrect tries to keep me from typing.Scrubbing Monkeys wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 4:16 pm
Who owns who doesn't matter to me.....just deliver like CBS did with Fender not like who ever owns AIR.
Is it? I find it totally seamless.mixyguy2 wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 11:49 pmYou can't be serious. The whole plugin within a plugin is stupid, for starters.
But the window is resizable, which is all that matters. It's not scalable.
Wait on, a second ago you were complaining about the plugin within a plugin thing, now you want to complain that they try to make it as seamless as possible. Make up your mind. My tired, old eyes don't find the fonts small on my 14" laptop screen so I don't quite understand the problem. The fonts are annoyingly tiny.
I'll take your word for it, I've never found it to be an issue.A ridiculously complicated file extension mess.
I just have the free Player, it's more than sufficiently amazing.I could go on. And it's been this way for years. The only reason I finally broke down and bought it (other than being steeply discounted) was there are so many companies that use it whose plugins I was really interested in, including a lot of freebies.
Maschine is not Kontakt and I agree that Maschine's workflow is not as straightforward as it could be. But I didn't actually pay for it and I never, ever use it so I don't really care.anttimaatteri wrote: Wed Apr 13, 2022 11:54 pmand the maschine gui, is the exacr opposite of anywhere near intuitive.
The thing is that none of these companies currently force a subscription model on you, they just offer it as an option for those who find it easier to deal with a regular payment than with a larger one-off payment at irregular intervals. i.e. Corporate customers overwhelmingly prefer a subscription model. I'm sure they know exactly what percentage of their customers use which model and they also know that a lot of people would rather do without than be forced onto subscription, so they aren't about to burn customers like Apple did when they bought Logic because, unlike Apple, they can't afford to lose half their customer base.pekbro wrote: Thu Apr 14, 2022 1:57 amTo me this doesn't really bode well for the market, they just want to put a ton of content under one banner and one subscription service. And that's precisely what I'm concerned about - once they have enough of market and available plugins they may want to force people to use subscriptions so you'll own nothing and be happypekbro wrote: Thu Apr 14, 2022 1:57 am To me this doesn't really bode well for the market, they just want to put a ton of content under one banner and one subscription service. Well, they can just release new products as subscription only and don't update existing ones. There will be still smaller devs unless the whole industry decides to go that route then we're kinda screwed.j wazza wrote: Thu Apr 14, 2022 8:35 am see what you mean about it becoming a monopoly/maybe subscription, but they cant make what we already own subscription, and none of these are high end in terms of sound quality, theres better sounding stuff than these companies, so dont think they could do that, id just get better sounding non sub stuff elsewhere
thats what i was getting at about only new products being sub only, does anyone actually know they plan to do this or just speculation? and its not just these 3 devs or small devs, lots of other big ones0degree wrote: Thu Apr 14, 2022 8:39 amWell, they can just release new products as subscription only and don't update existing ones.
