What is analog sound? Examples plz

I stumbeled over the track below yesterday and thought wow, since it sounds like a record from 1994. For me it´s a perfect example of analog sound and since I collect sound examples I thought it might be interesting to ask here what is analog sound for you?

I also saw an other video from insides his studio. I could recognize an SH-101 and there were some others around.

that's the perfect analogue sound to me, or at least one track that stands out as such if asked this question.

To me, analog is noise and distortion. Not just noise in the audio path, but general chaotic variation in many aspects of the sound. Overdriven VCAs and VCFs.

ah, yes "the sound of analogue" in general, it's everything, electrons dancing in a random fashion
being analogue doesn't of course automatically make something great!

of course, we are all then going to have different ideas about which is good or bad.

and i don't think those tracks (the first be in the op and my understanding suggestion) are good because they used analogue synths.

Mostly analog including DCOs like the juno.
Could be a smidgen of nord lead and jd-800 in there i suppose.. Although for some reason this one sounds almost fully like the alpha juno mks-50. And tb303.

analog can sound very different from other analog, warm or cold etc, but it all has certain qualities compared to digital like more depth, fullness, thickness, richness and more texture and imperfections, this means it sounds closer to real world instrument sounds that all also have these qualities compared to digital, even though instruments sound very different from each other too

these qualities are a result of the sound being in a physical medium, like air in a room or electricity in a synth, tape or vinyl etc, rather than code

Sure. Analog, or even a simulation of analog, isn’t a ticket to greatness. I just view it like another style.

It would be sad if we didn’t.

To be honest, I didn’t even bother to listen. I’ve owned or been in contact with enough of every category of synth to have a pretty solid idea of what I consider a good analog style tone. I’m of the mind that you should spend more attention finding the right thing for the part than worrying about the technology type.

Ok, I went back and listened to the tune and it literally contains good examples of everything I mentioned. Do I get a prize?

What I like most about the "old" and analog sound ist that it isn´t that "present" and "harsh". Often damped somehow. It´s smoother and "fuller". Just like in the example.
