No, because everything I have was free anyway, so no biasTj Shredder wrote: Fri Apr 15, 2022 6:32 amIs it possible I see a bias?AnX wrote: Thu Apr 14, 2022 6:43 amNothing, there is nothing free that is better than any commercially available stuff I have.

And don‘t forget there are free commercial synths, even free as in speech like Vital, or formerly commercial synths like Surge. I don‘t see at all a lack of quality. The only area which is sort of captured by commercial synths are monsters like Falcon or Halion… Some areas have clearly better commercial options, but the majority of commercial subtractive synths can easily be replaced by free ones…
If you insist on the last 0.01 % of authenticity of analog emulations you might be right as well, but with these you fail against the originals anyway…

Maybe, but I have very few high quality instruments I use, none of which can be replaced by freeware.Tj Shredder wrote: Fri Apr 15, 2022 7:35 am but the majority of commercial subtractive synths can easily be replaced by free ones…

Pray tell? I AM genuinely interested as this argument does pop up frequently. Be nice to see a list of "you can't replace these with free instruments".AnX wrote: Fri Apr 15, 2022 7:51 amMaybe, but I have very few high quality instruments I use, none of which can be replaced by freeware.Tj Shredder wrote: Fri Apr 15, 2022 7:35 am but the majority of commercial subtractive synths can easily be replaced by free ones…

I'm at work, but off the top of my big fat head...
Dune 3
Zebra 2.xxx
Alchemy (pc)
Albino 3
Legend
Of course, you can argue/suggest alternatives, but it's pointless. I've tried just about everything since 2000....so I kinda know my stuff.

I had to google for Albino 3. Surge was one of the commercial competitions at is time (2006) I guess… Albino is abandoned, Surge is still actively supported and now open source. Actually supported only because Clas set it free as open source, else it would have seen the same destiny as Albino…
I would agree that Alchemy and Zebra are not easily replaceable with free instruments, the other three are, but as this is a matter of taste I can see your point to stick to those…

..the human voice..
We shall see orchestral machines with a thousand new sounds, with thousands of new euphonies, as opposed to the present day's simple sounds of strings, brass, and woodwinds. -- George Antheil, circa 1925 ---

Given the huge software requirements to make it work reliably (not to mention the long installation time)...
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!
