They totally should because Mac users love paying.
I don't love paying for anything but I'd be willing to pay a reasonable fee if it truly was that much work. However, so far nobody except McDSP is asking for that so be a lot smarter about it than they were.

But you said at one point you weren't going to be developing new products. You were going to focus on existing products providing free updates and improvements. In the meantime you have developed a new product and have been adding new features to existing ones.

Should they also charge for VST3 updates?

Mac/Logic users already use their own plug-in version (which also requires maintenance). On top of that AU thing they piled the demand for updates each time they change OS (which is EVERY YEAR). Don't compare that with VST3, which was launched about 15 years ago and was never imposed on anyone. As much so that major vendors like NI only now started to migrate their plug-ins

In the meanwhile, we see a bunch of whiners demanding M1 versions of their plug-ins, as if that was as easy as turning on the computer and press a button.

Oh so wait now VST3 is OK even tho it actually is now being imposed on everyone due to the end of support and licensing for VST2? I've seen many, many complaints here about it in the past but now it's not a big deal? So yeah, the comparison is apt. If anything your point makes things look worse since some companies have had 15 years to get transitioned over and are now rushing to get it done.

As to "that AU thing": no requirement to ship an AU for Mac but why you wouldn't want to given the ease of support (and the size of the market) if you've already written a VST it would be stupid not to ship one. And what "maintenance" is required to support AU? It's a one and done and the latest AU standard, v3, has been around for about 7 years now so little reason, aside from laziness, to not support it. Do you say the same about "that AAX thing" too? Or is that one OK as well?

And yes, people are whining for Apple Silicon versions of plugins because just about every manufacturer has already shipped them, including small shops like ValhallaDSP and u-He and Apple Silicon is the future of the platform. That being said most of it works just fine on Rosetta2 so who gives a flying f**k what people are complaining about? Markus can take his own sweet time since his plugins work just fine on Rosetta2.

Warlock's 12db analog filter is one of the fattest, hardware like sounding filters i've ever use.
Icarus have Tone2 Analog filter - is it same filter?
Try to compare them, but two have very different structure and it's difficult to replicate preset from one to another.
Read the manual, but didn't find info about which filter in Icarus is analog 12db,that's why ask here.
Cheers :)

You can recreate the sound with the Fractal LP in Icarus. The filter is not linear. It's sound does also depend on the input volume. Changing the oscillator VOL has an effect on the resonance.

The list has grown a lot. Here is what I already finished for the upcoming update.
-----------------------------

Icarus 2.5 (free update)

The update is available for free for all Icarus2 users.
Icarus 2.5 is downward-compatible with all previous versions. All existing song projects and patches can be loaded without any further steps necessary.

New features:

150 additional patches created by professional designers.
Reworked patch browser with 6 different sizes (small/normal/big + with/without keys).
Native M1 Silicon support on the Mac.
Help->'Show version info' displays the mode in which the plugin is running (ARM/Intel).
A double-click resets a knob to default.
Added tooltips with descriptions to the wavetable editor.
Free Soundset demos.
Extended skin support for 3 sizes.
The shape of AHDSR envelopes can now be edited by drawing in the display.
The mouse arrow changes over controls that can be edited by drawing in the display.

Enhanced sound:

Higher sound-quality in 44 kHz, 48 kHz and 88 kHz sample-rate.
More precise timing.
New microtuning algorithm that detects and enhances a wide range of chords.
Enhanced sound of Reverb. It has a more smooth rolloff and less detuning.
Enhanced sound of Ensemble effect. It has a more subtle modulation and is in-tune.
Enhanced sound of Hypersaw 10x Stereo.
Enhanced sound of Delay, Delay Wide, Delay Diffuse, Delay Band and Delay Dual.
Enhanced sound of Multitap and PingPong. They have a more subtle modulation.
Enhanced sound of Reverb Dark. It is calculated with higher precision.
Fine-tuned default values for some effects.

Enhancements:

More smart detection of the VST2 path.
The native M1 support results in 20% lower CPU use compared to Rosetta2 Mode.
More responsive GUI on M1 Macs.
The ideal GUI size is detected automatically.
Enhanced many graphics.
Higher performance.
The interface has more contrast.
Random Button with extended feature set (3 oscillators, creates new wavetables, etc).
Many small enhancements for the wavetable editor.
Much faster loading and saving.
Further optimisation to prevent denormalisation.
Fine-tuned the coordinates of some GUI elements.
Many small enhancements.
The scrollbar in the patch-browser has more contrast.

Fixes:

(Tooltips did not work with Dark Mode with Big Sur.)
Workaround for the 'unusual' designed audio architecture of FL Studio. It is not longer necessary to enable 'Use fixed size buffers' to avoid crackles.
(Workaround for a bug of Big Sur where new AudioUnits are only detected after a reboot.)
Several small compatibility fixes for MacOS 11 and MacOS 12.
The coordiantes of the context-menu for knobs were not always correct.
Fixed a rarely appearing crash in the wavetable editor.
The coordinates of the scrollbar-handle in the patch-browser could have an wrong offset.
A double-click to a knob of an envelope now correctly redraws the display.

Changes:

AudioUnit is now an AUv2 plugin.
AudioUnit and VSTi are now a Universal Binary for 64bit Intel and M1.
Apple's development tools are unable to build 32bit Intel binaries when you support M1. Sadly we had to drop support for it.
Apple's Notarisation and the M1 support requires a MacOS version higher or equal than 10.11. If you still use an older version you must stick with Icarus 2.0.
The name of 'Reverb Trance' is now 'Revereb Swirl'

Notes:
Unlike what Apple suggests to their customers porting complex products to native M1 is not easy at all. In our case it did mean many months of additional work.
