I didn't see any thread on this, so I'll make one!

I got an email earlier today from Waves and they just released a new NX plugin that is NX Germano Studios.

I have all of the NX rooms, Abbey Road, Ocean Way and CLA, so I'll probably be picking this one up too since it's only $29 right now.

I think that the different rooms are a good way to check your mix in different environments and studios to get a taste of how your mix sounds there.

I've actually been in the Hit Factory NYC and did some things there some years back when the studio still existed, so adding the Germano room to my collection will be a nice addition.

For their next NX plugin, I'd like to see Waves come out with a car version, that could be a handful of different vehicles that you could audition your mix in. I have a few different plugins like this from various companies, but each company has their own take on the process and their sound is different too.

So, I already bought and installed this and did my usual quick 5 minute test and that's all I need to form an opinion.

I like this Germano room. It's very different sounding than some of the other rooms. I was basically just playing a source track and then switching through the different rooms to hear the differences and there were plenty.

For example, the mains in the Germano sounded very different from the mains in Abbey Road. Obviously two very different kinds of studios.

I've never been to Abbey Road, but I don't think that I would want to mix there in real life, because out of all of the NX plugins, the Abbey Road mains are the mains that I like the least, but I guess that's a matter of personal preference and personal ears.

There are 3 different speakers in the Germano room that you can choose from. I like how there is an NS-10 there because that's a good point of reference for anybody that knows those from before but might not know the other speakers included, since they are more exotic.

I don't mix through these plugins, but I do like to check mixes afterwards in a variety of different rooms, speakers and settings. I try to make things sound good in every room.

Buying virtual rooms? LOL

Yes, I buy virtual rooms and I'll be buying more in the future too.

I don't have the space, time or money to buy and build real rooms, so virtual rooms are a helpful tool for me.

I'm glad that you find that funny, but I work with headphones most of the time, and various virtual rooms have helped improve my mixes these past few years.

I've been doing music for a long time, but I've been making the best mixes of my life these past few years, due to various new tech and new tools that I've been using, including virtual rooms.

Going into a real studio can easily cost hundreds of dollars per hour, I don't have a problem with buying a virtual room of a commercial studio for $29 that I will get to use forever, if I feel it's useful to me, my music and my mixes.

if it works for you, carry on. Why should anyone laugh at you because something works for you :tu:
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

Yes, when it comes to music, there is no right way or wrong way in my opinion.

Everybody has their own ways and preferred methods of doing things. I certainly do. I'm not sure how anybody could find virtual rooms funny, but it doesn't change my preferences for anything.

I think that virtual rooms can be pretty useful. There are various tools that I use in 2022 that I did not use some years ago, like virtual rooms and correction software like sonarworks. If somebody knows what they are doing, then these sorts of tools can be pretty useful.

The average person with a home studio set up most likely has terrible acoustics in their room or wherever their set up is located. I find that listening to a mix that I did in different environments, including virtual environments is a useful tool for me.

i found the Germano room has way less low end than other rooms. i also found the CLA room kinda boomy. out of all five Nx plugins, i think Ocean Way is the one that is most neutral and balanced, aside from the "ideal" Nx room, which i think takes the cake here - i still like that one the most.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

Demo'ed the Germano vs Ocean Way and "unbranded" Nx rooms. I can see the value some might find in having a variety of these rooms but one will probably suit me. Preferred Germano most of the three and base Nx least. Germano does seem a bit light on low end but I went looking for quick & dirty method to check 5.1 surround mixes on headphones ... so that sort of rules out Ocean Way & CLA. I like that Germano can mute and solo the different channels in surround mode, which base Nx doesn't seem to offer. Abbey Road Studio prob. should have been on my demo list too, but Germano adds the Ambience dial and I demoed ARS years ago and found it meh.

When A/B'ing the rooms (or even switching monitors within a room) I found it helpful to momentarily reset to the original and then go to the new setting. For some reason my ears could hear the differences more distinctly by going back to ground so to speak.
