Drifting is going out of tune, no matter how you put it. A certain degree of drifting may be desireable (that's the chorusing effect of an ensemble playing together, or the effect induced by a chorus effect unit). But we always need to control it to keep it inside limits. You probably know that joke regarding the definition of a minor second: "What is a minor second? Two flute players in unison."
Again, my MKS-80 has a button labeled "auto Tune". Guess why it's there
