Voted for Cubase, but I just switched from Logic Pro a few months ago having used that since about 2001 or so (when I switched from Cubase VST32).. But I also do a lot of work in Ableton Live, and I primarily write with an MPC.

Keep trying to dip my toes into Bitwig because I love making little aleatoric music box toys on my modular but Logic is what I started with and am most comfortable with, so it's still my default.

Resident Digital Performer user here, I've also used Live since version 3. Sometimes Reaper, Bitwig and Logic, but rarely. Not surprised at the high Logic count, always surprised at the high Cubase count, as it struggled on Mac for the early 2000's around the same time Emagic/Logic was bought by Apple.

Logic as my main, Studio One and Live on occasion. I also have Cubase and PT, but never use them since going 100% Mac a few years ago.

Because of a lack of proper menu bar integration and close buttons being on the right side of the windows, apps like Bitwig or FL Studio will always feel kinda odd or out of place on a Mac.

Still no votes for ProTools. I'm not sure if that says more about ProTools or KVR. :ud:
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

Mastering engineers and studios use ProTools. Creators/Producers don't.

People who record bands with microphones mostly I'd say.
I haven't met many people who run predominantly synths especially soft synths that use ProTools.

Surprisingly, a lot of producers actually do use Pro Tools. Because, well... It gets the job done.

The same way many use REAPER, Cakewalk, Reason, MPC, Maschine, Samplitude Pro X (particularly in the European market), etc.

The fact that other solutions may be predominant in a certain market segment does not mean that something else is "not used" simply because it is predominant in another. That's demonstrably false, as there are a few producers who work in the industry who produce content on YouTube...

using Pro Tools as they primary (and only, in some cases) DAW.

I severely doubt they are peerless in that choice.

Contrary to popular believe, not everyone wants to produce in X and Mix/Master in Pro Tools. Some people don't see a point in band wagoning industry FADs when they can do everything in Pro Tools without needing to juggle things.

The same way I don't see why most people would Produce in something like Studio One, Cubase or Cakewalk and then Mix in Pro Tools. That's a waste of time.

I think its kind of funny, with Cubase 12 it seems the tables have turned again. The Windows users are having problems left and right over at Steinberg's forums, but for the most part us Mac folks have been smooth sailing out the gate.. I switched back during 11, and it was a little CPU heavier than 12, but so far both have been rock solid, reminding me of the good old Win2K days with VST32 haha.

Major props for sticking with DP. Im a MOTU guy here, and have played with DP and the free AudioDesk that came with my interfaces in the past, but they way its organized and laid out made no sense to me for years. Moving to an MPC a couple years ago, I think I finally 'get' how it works with the chunks and whatnot (kinda like the MPC and its sequences), but after all this time, I know Logic, Cubase and Ableton like the back of my hand so didnt bother checking out 11.

That's a tradition at this point, Cubase was terrible at low buffer settings on Mac for years, then when they fixed it, they messed the GUI redo they did on the Windows side. :lol:

I think 99% of the people who start looking into DP right away get confused by Chunks and the Song Window, which IMO are more "advanced" features. You simply do not need to use Chunks, V-Racks or the Song Window. I rarely use the Song Window, it's inappropriately named, it should be called the Global Arrangement window or something, it's mostly for video scoring and arranging if you're very careful about how you lay out Sequence Chunks.

Basically you ignore Chunks, V-Racks and the Song window and DP is like every other DAW. The only other road block is that the Tracks window is an Overview, a less cluttered way to look at your sequence.

Chunks come into play where other DAWs have you create whole new projects, or in the case of film scoring set up a monster 90 minute sequence in your arrangement editor window etc. So remixes of a song complete with entirely different VSTs can exist in the same projects, and you can divide a film score into multiple sequences that you load into the Song window or another sequence if you want.

I think all DP users always try to explain that DP isn't that complicated and end up writing an essay sort of proving that wrong! :hihi: It's one way I can commiserate with Reaper users! :hihi:

LOGIC X. I still have lite versions of ableton, I was even using Pro Tools LE 5 on my ancient OS9 machine earlier this year. It took some struggling but Emagic Logic Audio Platinum changed music and recording for me. Before that I was using cool edit pro and jeskola buzz.

I've considered what I would do if I couldn't use computers anymore. I would likely be on an akai mpc or squarp pyramid, a couple akai racks (depending on flavour), plus whatever other synth hardware I have controlled by midi->CV or by hand, and bouncing to 8-track reel tape/ADAT or something.
