tbh I turned off VST hosting, I never used it and prefer now to use it as a RE Rack within other hosts.

I only ever use my Reason 11 Intro as a rack plugin as well.
Ok, kind of defeats my point about using Reason as a self contained environment, but, the rack plugin is actually a nice development.
VST support in Reason itself was a bad decision IMO. Especially as it's kind of unstable in my experience. At least I had a few plugins which simply didn't work properly in Reason.

It’s not a modern thing at all. Back in 1998/9 Propellerhead had a very active developer blog called .plan files and a spycam as well. The actively promoted and described the development process of reason and if you visit archive.org you can see it in all its glory.chk071 wrote: Wed Apr 20, 2022 12:07 pmIt's kind of a modern thing though. Back in the days, nobody gave two farts about public announcements of what software will be like when it's released. People bought software for a purpose, and the one which was tailored the best to the needs was successful.jamcat wrote: Wed Mar 23, 2022 8:54 pm I don’t use Reason, but it’s really nice to see a developer be so forthcoming with their development plans and priorities. Most just keep users in the dark, leading to anger and frustration in the absence of information.
I understand though that in times of social media and all that, developers need to be open with their stuff, and always pretend that they do "what people ask" them to do. Although I really think that's just an illusion, and developers should rather have a proper vision of what their software should be. Which is what the people want. Or not. At least it's a vision, and not a mish mash of "a little bit of this and a little bit of that", which is neither fish nor flesh.
Like the peeps always asking for clip launchers in Studio One. Give me a hacksaw please.
These days they are actually a much more closed shop however the internet and web are very different beasts as well.

I use Reason V11 as my main DAW. There is no chance I ever would if it didn't support VST (I heavily rely on Superior Drummer 3 and (to a lesser extent) AD2).
I am familiar enough with it and most other DAWs to know that it is really unique in a number of (imo revolutionary) ways.
I was always attracted to it, but before it introduced audio recording and stably and efficiently implemented VST support it just wasn't for me. Now it runs more stably on my two machines than e.g. Reaper.

The new Vocoder, every patch is a reverb unit lol.
I moved a few dials inclluding the carrier being the mic but every patch has reverb and no vocoding at all.
I switched between presets big unison and Hang glider and both sound exactly the same,a hall effect reverb on the voice but no vocoder.
Unless you are a mathemetician and know what the dials do.
I have no clue how to use this lol.
In Reaper ,I will see if it is easier to vocode my voice.
Reaper's vocoder is complicated to work also.
sigh.
Not a big fan of the vocoder sound anyway, very cheesy and dated, that shit house auto tune type of sound, just like to check if these plugins work for a beginner, alot of stuffing around for a shit voice effect.

I'll have to agree, it's not 100% clear how to set it up in Reason, for instance. There are a few videos for FL Studio, Studio One, Logic and Live on their YouTube channel, but since the device is not auto routing in the Reason DAW, I understand it's a bit hard get started. Why didn't they make a video showing this? Reason Studios seem to totally have forgotten about the DAW, focusing only on the the Reason Rack, plus Rack Extensions.
I bought BV-X instantly though, but mostly because I had a lot of reward points to use. Can't say I like BV-X, yet, more than the Softube Vocoder that was released a couple of weeks ago. But it should have a lot more potential, and I like the GUI.

I hate reading manuals, too much text
I usually find a way to manage things, but I understand that some people don't when it's not obvious how to do it. In this case I gave it an extra thought, "what is it I'm trying to achieve?", and if you think like that, you often solve it

Yeah, like 9 times out of 10 you can work it out just with some extra thinking. But my experience is that it is a lot quicker just to do a quick search in the manual to see if the solution already is in place, rather than me trying find it by trial and error after a couple of hours.
But, sometimes those hours can be really usefull since you learn quite a lot by all that

chk071 wrote: Wed Apr 20, 2022 12:11 pm Reason is actually the best example for that kind of thing. People always nagged them to implement VST. And now it's a VST host, which can't compete at all with other hosts in terms of functionality, instead of focusing on what Reason always was: A self contained modular environment, which just works, because it doesn't overwhelm you with all the offerings in the world, and which focuses on making music, not a gazillion of sequencer features. Reason used to be unique, now it's just pretending to be like all the others.
Perhaps as a host it’s a pretender; as a plugin it has a lot to offer. I’m really happy to have it inside Cubase so I can tap its synths and midi gadgets without having to use rewire.

So what are the steps needed to set this up? (Vocoder?)
Depression is too much for me to sift through you tube.
When you think about throwing yourself from a building everyday, looking for a bloody way to get this running is way too much.
God only looks after the smart people.

That’s how I roll… wish I’m able to use the RRP again sometime again. maybe 2023? Besides that, no plugins within Reason (it kinda runs somewhat nicely under Rosetta)aMUSEd wrote: Wed Apr 20, 2022 12:19 pm tbh I turned off VST hosting, I never used it and prefer now to use it as a RE Rack within other hosts.

I know I said the vocoder is a cheesy effect but I did some hunting on famous songs used by the effect and am now red faced.
One of my fav songs of all time has vocoder all over it O Superman by Laurie Anderson.
Odear.
It has another cheesy string sound on it as well, the Solina strings if my ears don't escape me.
Those strings sounded great on Santana's Amigos album though.
Wish You Were Here album used those strings I'm pretty sure.
P.S. still have no idea how to set up the new vocoder to work, staring at Reason rack after tabbing and have no idea what cables to route where and what channels to use.
It's all like a hard puzzle game to my mind ;-(
Reason guys are not very willing to help ,very elitist.
I would love a Step A to Step what ever tutorial as the you tube ones are made for mathemeticians.
Reason's tutorial videos are very lacking when compared to the brilliant Reaper tutorials.
Got the Reaper Vocoder working!!!!
I swapped over the vocoder for Full Bucket Music's FBVC and getting amazing results!!!!
Now to try to do that in Reason,I will be here till the next century trying to work it out.
Does Reason 12 have a project file to start with that loads everything properly?
I saved my Reaper Vocoder project as a template for future use.
I'd be lost like a lost sheep without Reaper,it is that good.
Reason has some amazing sounding instruments so I will just use it for that,a rompler,it's routing drives me to the nut house.
P.P.S. I could not get the Reaper vocoder to work in real time with a mic though like he shows in the video.
Got Reason's vocoder working as a rack plugin inside Reaper.
I tried the external carrier and hooked up a Thor and connected the CV outs of the Thor to the CV ins of the Vocoder but nothing.'
Can't stand the routing in Reason, even as a rack plugin it is hard to understand with all the multitude of connections on the back of the Reason devices.
I found this tutorial.
I used the same routing but replaced the vocoder with the new Reason Vocoder and turned it to external so it would pick up the Thor but the Vocoder did not work, the midi notes only played through Thor and did not make the vocoder sounds in the Vocoder but I did see that signal was going into the Vocoder.
Did I tell you I can't stand the routing in REASON?,I hate it.
Why I always end up never using Reason,my mind is just not switched on that way.
I will just have to use the Reason rack in Reaper as a rompler or FX but for things with complicated routing like Vocoders, forget it!
I'm a muso not a Mathematician.
