Why do they only go to -20/18 most of the time. The only ones I know that go nuts are
ReaEQ - -90 but with some really weird behaviour
SliceEQ - -30
2C EQ - -60
... any more deeeeeep cutters? Doubling up is a waste of limited bands at times.

This is true but I rarely find I need more than about +/- 20dB even for extreme cases (like high Q de-resonance). Pro-Q and Crave do 30dB which is about perfect. However, I do remember a couple of instances when I wanted to cut more and had to go searching through my EQ plugin folder for one that would even allow it. It is rare for EQs to go beyond 30dB, definitely.

stiĺ interested in suggestions here.
Sugar Audio Filterizor - -50 really bad q control
Redline Equalizer - -50 best eq shape by far, just thoroughly unergonomic and costly
reaplug spectal thing - spline based weirdisms
Blue Cat Parametric - untested but -40ish

Equilibrium does -36dB. Why not just stack multiple bells if you need deeper cuts though?
I once thought I had mono for an entire year. It turned out I was just really bored...

If you want to cut 60 dB with a notch, something is very wrong to begin with

I am assuming you mean a band stop filter? Apqualizr2 will do what you want. It is an excellent EQ https://www.apulsoft.ch/apqualizr2/

In the end I did just that... ganged up Fruity Parametric instances in Patcher and the result is simple, elegant and excellent...
... and no, you don't need -60db to take the ring out of a snare. Nothing is wrong - just don't always imagine (and WE ALL have to work at this in ALL aspects of life) that your own application of dimension defines the entire universe of truth for anything. Maybe I'm not even using this in music?

Just out of curiosity, because I never was in a situation where I needed this, why not a notch filter? Is there a big difference between a -60dB with a steep Q and a notch filter?

notch filter is a really narrow bandstop filter. Other than that there is nothing special about themfese wrote: Sat Apr 23, 2022 7:34 am Just out of curiosity, because I never was in a situation where I needed this, why not a notch filter? Because I need it to behave and be adjusted like a bell, just much deeper sometimes. I recommend the free 2S EQ to see what you make of it.fese wrote: Sat Apr 23, 2022 7:34 am Just out of curiosity, because I never was in a situation where I needed this, why not a notch filter?
