Very cool side project.
Do you use external API for this project? If so, which one? :)

Post

Where does the list of developers come from?
Does a developer have to have a deal to be added?

For example, I looked for "Audio Modeling" and "Modartt" but neither are listed.

We use custom coded bots to scrape the websites, no API

We scrape these 15 websites currently for deals (adding more each week):

- ADSR
- Audio Deluxe
- Audioplugin Deals
- Best Service
- JRR
- Loot Audio
- Native Instruments
- Plugin Alliance
- Plugin Boutique
- Plugin Fox
- Soundiron
- Spitfire Audio
- The FX Chain
- VSTBuzz
- Waves

If you don't see those particular brands you're looking for, that means they're not on sale on any of the above websites currently. However, we'll be adding a proper search box shortly that will allow you to search for a particular brand or product to setup a price notification / see the price history even if its not currently on sale

Thanks. I'm particularly interested in the price history. Over time, patterns should begin to emerge for when to expect sales from different developers, which can help people plan their purchases in advance.

Yes exactly over the next 12 months you should start to see some trends - black friday especially will be interesting to have recorded so you can see the lowest prices products tend to go for...

A few more small updates while we're working on some larger features:

- Improved slider layout to fix styling issues
- We're in the process of updating the price alert email contents to allow you to unsubscribe from some / all alerts
- We've updated the layout of the table view

What we're working on now:

- Storing your preferred/default search parameters. How it will work is each time you update the search filtering (eg. select a max price or chose a category) we update the URL (without reloading) and you can just bookmark that search in your browser or share the URL with someone. When you visits again using that URL we do a search based on the parameters in the URL. So no need for us to save your profile / information, we just update the URL based on your search parameters.
- Adding an option for searching expired deals - this will allow you to see price history on products that aren't currently on sale/setup alerts for them

Any other features you'd like to see added?

We've added a new feature to the website now. Now when you change the search/display criteria, the URL autoupdates with the filters you choose so you can bookmark that particular search for the future. For example:

https://musicsoftwaredeals.com/?price_t ... =price_asc

The above URL will show all deal from $0-$20 in ascending order starting from cheapest to most expensive within that bracket. This one would show all deals from Plugin Boutique only that are $0-$10:

https://musicsoftwaredeals.com/?store=5 ... =price_asc

So just change your search/filter criteria then save that URL as a bookmark and it will load the data you're looking for each time automatically 😀

Hello, a few UX observations you might find useful

- I just searched for Project Sam in what looked like the main search box and didn't find anything coming up, which was confusing - I was expecting to be able to search by manufacturer rather than just by product.

- When I searched directly using the manufacturers menu, not realising you could type into it, I could find two items, Symphobia 1 and 2. But it's not clear from the icons which online store is offering the discount, and when I clicked on the picture, it took me straight to the Native Instruments store, rather than what I expected, which was to go to your price history page for the item.

[I see now that there is a red button which reads 'NA' which I assume is just a typo for NI - it looks like it means Not Available, so my eye glided over that. But looking at other items it's not instantly clear to me which shops are which]

- I did a test trying to look for FabFilter products. Going into the manufacturers' menu and typing should mean, IMO, that the company's name auto-populates, you press enter, and their products come up. Instead, if you find the manufacturer and click the button you toggle it OFF so that you're effectively searching for everything else except the thing you want. It's at least six or seven clicks to fix this.

- Then, only current deals come up. It would again be better IMO if when you look for a manufacturer, you arrive at a page which shows all their products, with the ones that are currently have deals at the top of the list. At the moment, there's no way of searching for expired / current deals.

Hi thanks for the feedback! These are really great ideas thanks.

1. Yes the "search" box only allows you to search by product name instead of company name so we'll add company name into that so it will show up results for both thanks!
2. The price history button shows up on each "tile" (product image) so you can click that to see the price history for any product. You're definitely right that we need to improve how we show which store is selling the product thanks
3. Also a good point. I think if we allow the search box to be used to search for company name or product name it should resolve this?
4. You can see expired deals if you tick the "Include Expired" box but we're still working on this.

Thanks for the feedback this is really useful thanks!

No worries - I know there must be an awful lot to do. It looks like it will end up being really useful.

Just one thing I think I expressed badly - what I meant by the expired deals bit was that you can't sort results according to what has expired or what is current. So when you do tick that box, it's not easy to see what you've found.
