29th March this was up. Sounds like it might be true. Could just be it was very close to April 1, but I remember talk about this going on for a couple of years.

Behringer has been banging out the synth announcements at a rate of knots recently, but if you were starting to get the sense that the company might be prioritising quantity over authenticity - see the recent glut of affordable mini synths being launched - these shots of its prototype VCS3 clone might be enough to convince you otherwise.

This one definitely looks suitably ‘vintage’, and Behringer says that the mechanical construction of the familiar pin matrix - plus the rest of the analogue circuitry - was very complex.

We’re told that UK analogue expert John Price has spent two years working on emulating the sound of the VCS3, adding some new functions along the way.

A pin matrix could make it possible to save away in presets, doing a digital approach maybe.

To have a multi preset machine is such a major boost in creativity.

Neutron was fun for a while, but then you start to dismantle all cables or some to get the next sound you are working on the creativity drops.

Behringer check market interest quite a bit, I think, in releasing this info.

The Pro-800 last info from Behringer was january 2021, said to be in production in a few months. All was ready to go - then silence. Not even a hick asking at Musictribes forum.

A Pro-800 would fit just nicely on top to the right on my Nordlead 2X, just as Neutron do now.

Something like this being cheaply built would probably disappoint the heck out of me.
However, If they can manage to do a decent job on it, it would be much fun no doubt.

They'd likely release it at similar prices to their other synths...at that price even something only approximating a VCS3 would a hugely enjoyable thing. And it is vaguely possible it'll get close sonically...Behringer are generally in the ball park at least and sometimes nail it. Pro800...I've pretty well already decided to buy that when it comes out. Previous clips show a real creamy squelch-fest for a filter. Accurate or not...I like it. VCS3 just looks like the ultimate fun...I wouldn't know in terms of experience. Never even got close to one before, prolly never will. I just hope they're not pulling our collective plonkers...

As for being cheaply built...well yeah they build them cheap, but IMO not cheaply built. Time will tell but my Monopoly, Wasp and 2600 feel solid. Actually feel sturdier than my 2 recent Korg acquisitions.

Apart from the shitty PSUs. ..already got one broken one. Fortunately they're easy and cheap to replace with better ones. Synths themselves are mostly solid though.

Yeah...mine'll consist of whole fleets. Probably with submarines hidden underneath. Trouble with those pins, you just know they'll go missing in action...the cat will definitely have them.

I can already see the missus getting the hump about her hairpins disappearing...and mysteriously reappearing in my studio.

i played with one once, had no clue what i was doing, but everything still sounded bloody awesome!!!

Mixed feelings.

Looks familiar indeed, but I'd rather see them go with modern standards and replace this pin matrix with CV bay as in Neutron or Mother32.
