Takes 4 or 5 seconds here to check the license (Windows 10 Home 64-bit).

On which OS are you?

It takes more than 15 seconds on launching Cubase just to verify activations - wtf… :(
Never happened with dongle Plug-in…
I still need the dongle plugged in, since Wavelab is still relying on it and yet I can’t transfer Cubase 12 Pro licence to usb dongle anymore :(
Half baked licence scheme by Steinberg… :(
Works excellent on PC :tu:

First time I hear that a DAW defaults to VST2, when there is a VST2 and a VST3.
The VST 3 is there, I just deleted the VST 2 and it then loaded the VST 3 with the sidechain option.
Cubase definitely seems to go for the VST 2 in preference to the VST 3.

I’m a bit confused. When you add a plugin doesn’t it display a symbol next to vst3 plugins? I always just choose vst3.

Is there a preference somewhere that is just supposed to display vst3?

Strange! In Studio One, it's the other way around.

What do you mean by defaults to? in my Cubendo it shows both vst2 and vst3. But since I use vst3 I disabled my vst2.

What is more confusing to me is that Cubase allegedly defaults to VST2, if there's a VST2 and a VST3. I really can't believe that. No host usually does. Especially Cubase shouldn't, which stops supporting VST2 soon.

Ran Cubase 12 on install several times and it was like a new program. Snappy and lacked the clunky nature of the last two versions. I customized my interface, organized my plugs, and it's definitely slower now. Takes longer to boot, and I run into the old clunkiness.

I still dont' get the default to.

if the vst3 is coded as designed by steinberg, cubendo won't even see the vst2 and will then of course default to vst2...
if it isn't coded as designed, that is vst2 and vst3 have different plugin id's it sees both and you select which one you want to use.. I am not sure what is meant by defaults to.

That's exactly what I meant. VST2 and VST3 having the same plugin ID. Cubase shouldn't even show VST2.

I'll try later on my Cubase AI.

I no lie! If both VST 2 and VST 3 plugins are installed then the VST 3 plugin is not shown as an option. Hiding or deleting the VST 2 sorts it out but I would have thought the VST 3 would be the default....hence my original post.

I believe. :D

It's just that it's weird. Can only be a bug or something.

Or is there a setting where you can change that behavior?

I just checked in Cubase AI 12, and, you're right... it doesn't even show the VST3's in the plugin browser, if the VST2 and VST3 share the same plugin ID. Can only load the VST2 version. I checked with Largo and V-Station.

WTH Steinberg? :D
