I just don't get who their market is. That's a ridiculous price. You can get a plethora of small, portable 6 channel mixers at a fraction of the price from established mixer companies which are big enough to actually use but small enough to be portable and compact. Are these things aimed at elves or leprechauns?

This! I've been making this argument on another audio forum to no avail, and came here looking for sanity . Several people on the other forum have already placed orders for it. If you look at some of the videos, the thing is actually too small to adjust the levels of two adjacent tracks at the same time - human fingers aren't that small. Plus, the USB interface is only 2x2. For $1200, you could easily get a very capable small mixer (such as the Tangible Waves VMIX-10) and a Digitone - a much more capable synth/sequencer.

I think it can mix 12 channels, but only records two at a time into a DAW - hence a 2x2 interface:

The marketing blurb says 'when you're ready for the studio, use TX–6 as a 12 channel audio interface and connect to any daw over usb-c. MFi also allows you to connect to iOS devices'

don't downplay Apple's abilities. There's also required adapters.
Recently had to buy a Thunderbolt 1/2 cable for my new audio interface.
In order to connect it to my Mac i also had to purchase a TB 1/2 -> TB 3/4 adapter which made it double of that
Didn't buy directly from Apple, but Amazon, which made the price somewhere in the 60's range (prefer to forget the exact, still insane amount ), but still

I think (and for $1200 hope) that you're right. It's certainly confusing. Here is another "explanation" I found on their website:

To me, this suggests, as you said, that it can either record two tracks to a DAW simultaneously (presumably the left and right outputs of the main mix), or it can send each track individually (but separately) to a DAW.

What's interesting is that there isn't the usual 'rush' for all the influencers to post videos on YT saying how great the new toy from TE is....I guess we will have to wait to find out what people really think, but even the greatest (paid) video have trouble justifying the price to the average user. Even those of us who bought things like the OP-1 and were called hipsters back in the day have trouble with this one!

what i don't get, the idea of a portable studio, kinda goes out of the window when you are looking at so many inputs really.

i get wanting a synth to take here n there, use it while on trains and in hotels, even on the beach if you're one of them
but you're not doing a f**king gig ffs, how much gear do you need for a picnic?

It does seem like a weird feature set. I can see needing more inputs for field recording, but then, who the f**k wants 1/8" stereo inputs for that? Also, who mixes their stuff in the field.

I can also see wanting something really small for small desks. So if you're living in a van. As much as I don't think that tablets replace physical controls, I think that they do in this context. A modular environment on an iPad will get the job done more effectively.

living in a van, a tablet is not only a better replacement mixer than this, but saves a lot of space being used as other items, while i agree, that tablets arent great for physical control, it's a sacrifice you'd make in such space requirements imo.

Make more sense as a Eurorack module mixer, but too overpriced even for Eurorack!

Bluebox has that niche, small, 12 inputs (takes euro level), mix, eq and records individual tracks (hours...) - more importantly costs £440 and has a 4 inch touch screen you can actually see!
