What I like about NI's fx series is that they - sound great; have just the right amount of options that it doesn't overwhelm you; are nonetheless very versatile, and universally applicable.

Quite a few of my "favorites" in their fx series: Replika XT for delay, Dirt for saturation, and Raum for reverb. The only one which is a bit lacklustre to me (even though I was quite hyped when it was released) is Phasis for me. Although it can also have its uses. I find it sounds a bit lame though, when it gets "pushed". But, phasers are a very difficult topic. I find most of the software ones lame.

Well, unless something changes (such as might happen with the Soundwide merger), EA reverbs are abandonware, whereas Valhalla's are not. That's why iZotope has been selling them dirt-cheap lately.

yup, for free, its almost unbelievable! id have happily paid a decent price for it, so many possibilities with it too, definitely doesnt feel like a freebie!!
I missed this for the xmas freebie, but got in in Komplete. Wasn't surprised it sounded good as there have been some great reverbs in Reaktor. Raum does suprisingly good large spaces I think, very smooth.

I still pull up SpaceMaster 2 from time to time as it still one of my favourite large space reverbs, has a great sound.

2CAudio still just about edge it for large spaces though.

Once again pays out to be on an OS where stuff doesn't just stop working at some point.

Yep. Ok, I need more than one word, here's a few more. Also, spacemaster 1, the original.

I've not been following, why is this?

is pc vs mac, the computer nerd equivalent of godwins law?

Dunno. Just wanted to point out that it doesn't affect you that the EA reverbs are "abandonware", when you're on an OS which doesn't deprecate software.

Also note that "abandonware" is quite an esoteric term. When does a software count as being abandoned? Who determines that?

Is Windows 98 abandonware?

Anyway, you're probably right, and we should go back to topic. ;)

that's true. it's one of Windows strong points. it of course has way more to it than just that it often gets credit for. Maybe it's because it has by far the largest market share and thus is boring, or not hip to like.
in the end, it doesn't matter much which OS you use, if you can find and use the programs that you like.

It's tiresome that certain people are so smug that they have to bring it up at every possible opportunity. By any measure it is a character defect, and one well worthy of some personal improvement effort.

Seriously, what is is? Insecurity? The unquenchable desire to patronize? General ass-hattery?

I've even heard certain individuals justify this behavior by claiming they are performing a community service by extolling the virtues of their choice of OS, so as to "educate" the ignorant people who are too stupid to make their own choices.

It really depends… if someone says that something isn't working anymore on current systems can really be a subjective thing, as for others it can clearly still be working perfectly fine on even more recently released operating systems

I don't think it's subjective or unclear to use Abandonware as a descriptor of Exponential's reverb line:

• the creator sold the rights to Izotope
• izotope confirmed they will no longer update the plugins

the creator is long gone from the project, and the company who is selling them isn't going to update them, ever....in other words, development of these plugins has been abandoned.

But this is somehow subjective or hard to understand...? :tu:

This is a dumb argument. Computers are technology. And technology is all about progress.

But no one is forcing you to keep up. Anyone can stay on old computers with old operating systems and obsolete CPU architectures. Mac users have that option if they choose to, too. But smaller steps, smaller risks, and smaller gains has never been Apple's culture.

Software technology is also about compatibility. If you don't have that, well... you're f***ed, in many regards.

And, no, CPU architectures don't get obsolete just because a single manufacturers chooses mobile CPU's for its machines.
