Your thoughts on Geist 2

DR-008 and the first Geist were their best products. I never liked GURU because it wasn't polished and plagued with nagging bugs, eventually they gave up on it and rolled out the Geist which was much better than GURU. The Geist2 has a terrible GUI but the sound and effects quality are excellent.

I'm sure he meant Geist 1...
However, the last update for Geist 2 was over 2 years ago. I guess Roli is not that interested in many of the FXPansion plugins (unfortunately).

Ahh, thank you. Looks like Cypher 2 and Strobe 2 redirect to the relevant Roli store pages.

Good to have some finality. I'm on Windows so Geist 2 will keep working for a long time. There is nothing comparable in this software class. There's MPC but it's a totally different workflow and the sequencing is conventionally-oriented. Then there are separate drum machine and sequencing solutions.

Geist 2 was ambitious, to say the least.

It's quite obvious really, Roli had no interest in anything that couldn't be utilised to sell MPE hardware, and while InMusic were interested in BFD, they decided that Geist would be too much overlap with their other drum machine products (Boom, Drum Synth 500, Transfuser, all the various versions of MPC, perhaps even Alesis' drum modules/machines)

If Geist has been discontinued, it also makes sense to think about alternatives.
I have seen that many of the better known musicians seem to use more and more the solutions that are available in the DAW anyway. With Cubase I've often seen the sampler tracks being used for drums (Steve Hellstrip "The Thrillseekers", Protoculture...). Ableton users then use the Drum Rack (David Guetta?). Of course, many also use loops or audio samples.
Steinberg also has the Groove Agent, NI has Battery. But I don't know if many people use this plugins (I suspect not).

Why wouldn't they, as a last farewell and thank you for the years, just give away the expansions to those who wanted them I wonder? That'd impress me and make me feel less sad/abandoned. Or, are Roli holding on to them, cashing in (potential) transfer fees?

Speedrum and tal drums and some good libraries for samples and loops (I think that geist libraries rex files can be used with them as well)

its the workflow and the crazy modulation what makes geist special. very inspiring.

That is really, really poor customer service - they can't get one employee to spend five minutes removing the 'Buy' button and putting a short notice explaining that it is no longer for sale?
