New in Cubase 12.0.20

April 27, 2022 – The Cubase 12.0.20 maintenance update is now available. The update introduces some improvements to the new MIDI Remote integration and also a lot of fixes and enhancements in other areas of the application.
Performance and stability issues

The 12.0.20 update addresses a couple of performance issues that occurred with different combinations of CPUs, plug-ins, MIDI Remote controllers, project settings or preferences. The performance on systems with many cores and short sample buffers sizes in particular will improve with this update.

We will continue to investigate performance issues on specific systems, and we will provide additional improvements with the next updates. Therefore, we still rely on your reports. Please get in touch with us in the Steinberg Forum if you are still experiencing issues after the update.
We have improved the following features and functionalities
MIDI Remote improvements

We are very happy about all the positive feedback on the new MIDI Remote integration, and our team is enjoying the enthusiasm and ambition of the community to create their own surfaces and scripts very much. As mentioned earlier, we will improve the usability and functionalities of the MIDI Remote Mapping Assistant and the MIDI Controller Surface Editor step by step. These are some of the new features in Cubase 12.0.20:

The MIDI Controller Surface Editor now supports trigger pads and horizontal faders.

Double-clicking on an item on a surface now opens the MIDI Remote Mapping Assistant window.

The MIDI Remote Mapping Assistant now allows to change mappings from "Fixed" to "Selected Track" to facilitate making your project-related mappings also globally available across different projects.

We have added explanatory texts for some of the settings in the Mapping Configuration section of the MIDI Remote Mapping Assistant.

The header of a surface now offers a pop-up control to access some of the key functions like disabling the controller script or exporting the script.

The "Import Script" function is now available when adding a device via the "+" button.
Miscellaneous

Render In-Place using option "Mixdown to One File" now works as expected.

Selected "Apply" action in (Project) Logical Editor now works as expected.

VariAudio note segments are now displayed correctly when editing multiple parts.

Selecting an output for a channel in the Channel Settings Window now works as expected.

We have improved the scrolling behaviour in the Sample Editor when changing the event selection.

The record file format in the project settings is now correct when a project is loaded after the application language was changed.

Saving presets in the StepDesigner MIDI plug-in now works as expected.

We have improved the performance with Vienna Pro Ensemble plug-ins.

Fast Forward/Rewind buttons in the Transport Bar now work as expected.

Writing automation in touch mode on linked VST MultiPanners now works as expected.

Audio-Exporting a Job Queue can now be cancelled as expected.

Pitch curves are now shown for the currently active audio clip only when using VariAudio.

The horizontal line of the Cross-Hair cursor is shown without an offset in the Key Editor.

We have improved the handling of unavailable network drives when starting up the application.

In the Markers window, attribute values are now displayed correctly.
Stability

We have improved stability in the following areas:

SpectraLayers as Track Extension

Insert/Send Bypass Track Operations set up in the Project Logical Editor

I am one of the people who had performance issues on both my intel mac and pc with low buffer sizes.. 12.0.20 has improved it vastly but still not at cubase 11 level.

How is this update helping (or not helping) others who might have had performance issues in c12 that weren't there in c11?

I don't see a big difference in performance compared to 12.0.10, but glad that they are updating it with this pace (Windows 10/Ryzen here).

S1 are still snapier and more stable with VST3 plugins on my system!
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Do you have cubase 11? If so how do they compare?

I uninstalled Cubase 11, but as I remember it was almost the same!

Anyway, I believe in the long run Cubase 12 (and later versions) will be better with time and with VST3. For me, it is not encouraging to use it right now, although Wavestation doesn't seem to crash anymore!

Still, if you see in the image below, there is a small line on the lanes button. Not important, but still indication of not 100% graphically polished yet! Oh, and why Massive X seems like that?!

yes the issue with Massive X and quite a few other plugins, including many other NI plugins is known and a fix will come.. for now, if you click on QC, once or twice the wasted space will go away.... for that instance.. until you open it up again..

But yes that is sadly a known issue.. drives me crazy..

Cubase 12 is actually snappier than 11 was for me at least.

Loads a bit quicker, and seems more responsive, could be placebo.

I am having MIDI notes stuck a lot more , not sure if that's Cubase or hardware related tbh.

I cannot get the Controller editor to work with an Alesis V25 tbh.
Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

Cubase 12 is a disaster for me. It needs three or four attemps to get started every time. Crashes often and hangs on shutdown. V11 was solid so this is a big step backwards... Lots of potential so I how they iron out the bugs.

Do you have the VST3s set so they go to sleep if not passing audio or not?

I am not aware there is a widespread issue of crashing at start up.. are you on mac or windows?
I know there was an issue with some older components still hanging around in one's system.
What is the oldest Cubase did you have installed on this computer? And did you ever have an older Nuendo installed on it?

Do you mean in Cubase or S1? Anyway, both are in default mode. I don't know where do you enable that in Cubase, but in S1 it is enabled (plugin nap).

The only problem I had in 12.0.10 was a "hang on shutdown" with a certain project. This has not happened yet in 12.0.20 so it seems they fixed it.

I have the latest version and sadly all is not well. Lots of issues on start-up and and shutdown. I will stick with it though since I really love the midi-remote features. I use a Maschine Mk3 as a controller and its increased my prodcutively massively. I really hope they continue to develop it.
