Also one of my favorite sounds ever. I always read It was an OSCAR as well, but, I was watching these videos about the 2600, by this awesome guy that makes the most incredible videos ever on how to use it, and he made one showing exactly how to make this sound :

Sounds more like a distorted resonant filter than osc sync to me. Could be sync, but I have come across this sound many times with certain combinations of filter and distortion whereas sync tends to give a sharper, more metallic, vowelly tone in my experience. To get that steppy modulation you could link velocity to filter cutoff.

FYI there's a very accurate ANA2 patch called "I love" that replicates this REZ/Cowgirl lead line (originally done on APR 2600).
