SX3 big install problem

Hey, I just bought Cubase SX3 (full version) after using (really) old Cubase VST for a long time. I got it today and put it in the DVD and started the setup. it gives me a window that says:

"Please wait until the Cubase SX3 installer is setup. this may take a few seconds".

But the thing is, that nothing happens, except that files are pumped into my hard drive until there is no more space! and then install stops because there is not enough space on the hard drive...

There is just this one file that keeps growing and growing until there's no more space on the hard drive. The file is in "Local Settings\Temp\SynsoInst", called ~GLH000c.TMP
I have 20 gigs of free space and the file just expands to 20 gigs (yes 20 gigabytes!), and then installation stops because there's no more space on the hard drive! :S

Do I really need more drive space, or is this just a problem with my computer?? is it possible it's a faulty DVD disc??

and for the love of god, try to help me, I spent too much money on this :D

Did you upgrade or buy an entirely new license?

Did you remove all dongles/copy protection devices while installing SX3?

Try uninstalling SX3 and first installing the latest syncrosoft LCC from here http://www.syncrosoft.com/downloads/ before you install SX3.

It's a full version, not an upgrade

This is really looking like a faulty installer CD.
I didn't have that much space on my programs partition left and it installed just fine (on several machines I should add).
Btw, doesn't make any difference whether it's an update or a new install, older SX versions remain untouched.

I'd have a go at a new installation CD, this behaviour just doesn't make any sense to me.

ok, thanks guys, I'll go down to the store tomorrow and ask them for a new disc, see if that works :)

It makes a difference because if it is an upgrade (instead of a new license) the dongle has to be updated, and there is also a saving of a couple of hundred pounds.

Yeah, sure - but the installer doesn't make any difference though as SX could happily be installed without any updated dongle as well (I did it that way and connected an updated dongle later on on several machines).

And yes the SX installer can be fussy, also try another DVD drive if you have one.

Did you try installing the latest LCC as I posted above? This is the first thing that gets installed by the SX3 install routine where you appear to be having problems.

Your third party "shared" plugins should be installed to driveletter:\Program Files\Steinberg\Vstplugins

If they are all installed there you can just point SX3 to that folder.

the folder at driveletter:\Program Files\Steinberg\Cubase SX2\Vstplugins is for SX2's included plugins, if you installed your shared plugins there then when you attempt to point SX3 to that folder as your "shared" vstplugins folder there will be a conflict between the plugins included in SX2 and SX3.

Yes and yes.
SX 2 remains untouched and keeps on working as good (or bad, YMMV) as before.
You can setup any folder to be scanned for plugins (allready possible in SX 2 as well, I only have one folder for all my apps), just make sure no plugins are doubled as this apparently might cause problems for some of them (not over here, but as you got like any plugin there is...).

Oh yes, cold c is right - don't use the same Steinberg internal folder for the plugins coming with it.
I have one main plugin folder (which is still my Logic Vstplugins folder) and the additional SX 2/3 ones appear only inside SX.

Put the 3rd party ones into another folder (yes, some work, but you only need to do that once), then link SX 2 and 3 to that folder.
