My favorite drums plugins don't scroll like the arrangers in hosts. It got me thinking about why don't hosts have native drums tracks that don't scroll. Let me explain a little...
Guru/Geist/Microtonic/Drum Computer and such are some of my favorite drum plugins. The sequencer might flip pages but the screen in the plugin stays put it doesn't scroll. Live and BWS both sport drum racks/machines so why not a dedicated drum track? Something along the lines of the main window in Geist. And providing that level of functionality. Don't get me wrong, I'll use whatever is in front of me. But I think since we have M4L and the Grid and the acceptance that folk are not just recording performances but also creating/performing inside of the host, why not a new track type? Why not have have native drum tracks?

because linear hosts are all based on timelines.
so, for example, if you have a non-scrolling drum track 'alongside' linear tracks, how exactly are you expecting to see when playback that track starts and stops compared to your time-based events?

Track doesn't have to be "alongside" per se. In BWS you can have a window open that displays a mixer or a clip or the grid. Why not have an option for a drum track. The plugin can do it so I think a host could do it as well. Of course there would have to be a cursor that moves along in-time but I'm not so sure a scrolling window is needed.

that doesnt make any sense. moving cursor on what? youve just said this track is only showing its events on a single page that doesnt scroll. so now it has a view of the project timeline as well?

maybe it's my terminology that's off... I am referring to the moving highlight, like in Geist, which indicates what is playing. I'm calling it a cursor but it may have a different, understood name. I wish I knew how to make a quick gif to better make the point...

i assume geist still needs something in the timeline to indicate it's time for drums!

It would work the same as a drum plugin. 1 on the sequencer's screen would be the same as 1, 17 and 33 on the timeline. Just like a drum plugin.
