Nimbus, R4, and Excalibur are all showing VST2 and VST3 on my system. So if you're on PC, they're at least an option. Mac users would be advised to stay away as they'll never be ported to Apple Silicon as mentioned earlier.

Cheers. I might have to keep an eye on them. Last time I looked, even in Plugin Boutique they still weren't exactly cheap, though I can afford them - just don't need another reverb enough to waste pocket money. I have to weigh up how many bottles of wine a plugin would detract from my cellar? Though I suspect the butler probably liberates more than I know.

kritikon wrote: Mon May 02, 2022 8:28 pm I'd possibly buy some EA verbs if they become a bit cheaper...are they VST3 or stuck in VST2? Currently it doesn't matter to me, but at some point I'll update Cubase so I don't really want any VST2 legacy plugins if I can help it...
I don't use VST myself, I'm a Mac, Logic, AU guy, but on the product page for one of their verbs, you can see that it says VST and VST3, no mention of VST 2.

FYI, "VST" means VST2.

I take it back about Plugin Boutique - just checked and - R2=$228.85, R4=$11.50. Seems very odd - isn't R4 "better" and more recent than R2? I've never bought from Plugin Boutique but they appear sus to me...e.g they were selling the FL vocoder when it's no longer supported as a VST by FL. Are they actually legit?

And...is EA iLok? Surely not if they were bought out by Izotope...

I have the Relab LX480. I can't recommend anything Relab right now because they don't currently support VST3 or Apple Silicon, but I do know for sure that both are being worked on. The problem with Relab is *a lot* of stuff is "being worked on" and has been for years, with no sign of a public release in the foreseeable future.

If that doesn't matter to you, then I'd say go ahead and get LX480 Essentials for $50, and then get the half-price upgrade to LX480 Complete if you like it. You'll save money that way.

Another one to look into is Acon Digital Verberate2. It has a "Swirl" control which is the same thing as Lexicon's "Spin" that gives it the classic Lexicon sound.

BTW, CSR reverbs are based on the PCM91, specifically, with some slight modifications to the modulation to avoid any patent issues with Lexicon. I know this for a fact.

Scratch that. Went back to look properly. EA is iLok.
End of sale. They can give it away free and I'm still not putting that shite on my laptop.

Yes, they are and that has not changed.
Even worse is they are USB dongle-only. No computer based authorization, at least for Phoenixverb and R2. Excalibur can be authorized on the computer.

csr plate it's still golden imo ,i still use it today as vocal plate ,it mixes really well...the whole CSR was state of the art years ago and was a close emulation of the pcm91 algorithms. higly recomended.

Ok, good to know. Thanks.

I'm not new to VSTs, but I don't think that VST2 or VST3 even existed when I last used VSTs probably 20 years ago when I was using Cubase for a little bit.

thx guys, so CSR is more to Lexicon, i see, i got the R24 and R48 from native instruments in komplete, guess i shall compare them. relab doesnt sound good when they dont update much and i see their guis are not resizable.

i read that R2, R4 etc. are MONO only in vst2? wtf?

and again about IKM, i gave these guys so much time and patience, i wait now maybe 6 weeks and had issues in the past as well, they still didnt solve shit, they even didnt reply about 2 weeks now. they just suck, point, as a customer it really is too much time given and they show no progress.
and they changed 3 or 4? times their authorization system which sucks. i dont wanna support such companies anymore were people woth BORROWED versions have no issues and people who buy their shit have problems with their authorization and crashing plugins. no thanks, i might keep tracks/csr but have to be aware i get no support. so i would lovely replace their shit with products of a company which has a less stressful authorization and careful support.

Wrong. That was back in the EA days - since they're Izotope, all EA plugins can be authorized via machine-based ILOK.

Interesting. I don’t suppose there is any way to update my iLok licenses then is there? I got them in 2012 and my iLok manager shows computer authorization greyed out. Not that it matters much though, since I cut them out of my life when iZotope abandoned them.
