Interesting. Yes, it's somewhat bright, but never to a degree that I found off-putting or problematic. On a send, yes I EQ my returns, but nothing too drastic; but I also use Sonsig as an insert a lot, in which case I'm stuck with the on-board brightness / damping controls. Re: the 224 being a one trick pony, if it weren't for how Vangelis used it, I'd probably never have thought twice about the unit in my life. But, well, he did...and the rest is beautiful Greek CS-80 History
.All the same, there are *plenty* of reverbs other than the UAD 224 that do great deep-space / long tail verbs, Sonsig and AAR being top contenders among them. So if you're not feeling like subscribing for *just that one trick*, I'd say you're gut is right, and don't bother. It's good, but it's not "buy into a whole new subscription system" good.
