Has anyone made Halion 1 to 3 leap? Advice

Hi
I have Halion 1.13, which I got bundled with Cubase SL.
I feel like upgrading to version 3, but there are a couple of things holding me back:
1 one more dongle? Dunno, I hate those
2 I happen not to have any serial number.
Please believe me: I bought this Cubase bundled used, the guy hadn't used it at all. In the box there was the dongle and ONE registration card and s/n, which clearly was for Cubase.
I actually believe that Halion 1 needed no serial number, as I wasn't prompted so, during the install.
Do you think I'll need a serial number to upgrade?
Thank you in advance!

So far the verdict on Hal3 from many users - and we're talking longtime Hal 1/2 supporters - is not good. Many are saying performance got worse with the latest version. Check out the Halion forum over at Cubase.net. Morale there seems to be in a freefall.
Personally, I'm in no hurry to purchase (temporarily using VSampler3 which imports Hal samples pretty damn well), so I'm giving Steinberg until the next update to get their act together. But, if you're currently considering Halion, it's not pretty right now.

Here is the link to the contentious Hal3 thread at cubase.net
It's worth reading right to the end, when Scarbee comes in and says his bit

btw I'm a Hal2 user who's thinking of making the jump for Xmas

Looking further into the Hal2 to Hal3 jump:
For the £100 the upgrade will cost, there's a shedload of new samples that come with H3 ... a lot more than came with Hal2.
It seems worth the hundred quid just for the samples
14 drums kits
16 basses
7 Grand pianos
19 assorted keyboards
10 pitched percussion
11 strings
16 guitars
10 brass
39 synths
Plus loops, surround sound stuff and movie fx

Not having read what is going on the forum about Halion 3, there by not knowing of anything bad about it, I would recommend Halion 3, It haves gorgious effect up there with even the best mastering effects avaiable. And the way it handles presets now + sound quality, is simply supreeme. One thing though, installing one of the latest updates made my Cubase dongle inasessible, but an update of the license control center changed that, just took me long to figure that out.
so remember to update that too.

Never mind, I made that experience before you ever got a chance to warn anyone, so no harm here.drinelli wrote:So this is common problem, sorry I should have told it on kvr a bit earlierRight, thank you. I've there sweating and cursing at the license control thing.![]()
Hope you can forgive me.

Thank you, I was quite sweating there, but if you would pass it on to the people at Cubase forum that would be nice, ( somehow I am not able to post any topics on that site ), just in case someone has the same problem not knowing what to do.
