Ahh the ultimate muso question, my vote goes for Are You Experienced, simply because it was so new and even now sounds fresher than 90% of decent music (even ignoring the drivel that sells)

HI
'Live in the west' & 'Sunshine of your love' - the latter is rare and probably a bootleg - then again the album with 'dolly Dagger' was a gem - shit they are all pretty out there, but the live set's capture his spirit best.
My wife saw him live when she was 14 years old and said she was terrified!

I agree, the songs on this are still inovative even at todays standards, the ending to "I Don't Live Today" is so electronic sounding and to think it was done only with a guitar and some simple effects.Ahh the ultimate muso question, my vote goes for Are You Experienced, simply because it was so new and even now sounds fresher than 90% of decent music (even ignoring the drivel that sells)

Saw him do "Sunshine of Your Love" at the third concert I was at, and have heard the bootleg with it many moons ago, convinced me he was better than Clapton.HI

midnight lightning. I know a lot of people pan this album because of the session people involved but listen to some of the licks on the blues numbers or "blue suede shoes" it really has some of Jimi's best playing even if the production suffered.

for me, definitely Electric Ladyland. Although I'm partial to the BBC Sessions CD set that came out a few years back.
I also like the Wild Blue Angel Isle Of Wight DVD that came out two years ago, it showed that even at a gig where everything went wrong (torn pants, taxi drivers through the Marshalls, tuning problems), Hendrix could still deliver when he was on. What is the best gig currently available on video?
ones to avoid - definitely the Alan Douglas "remix" ones. What sort of bloody idiot takes a Hendrix track, erases Mitch Mitchell's parts and then replaces them with tracks done by the drummer for The Knack? ( I Am Not Making This Up, this happened on the infamous Voodoo Soup CD, the one where Douglas wanted to "improve" the songs from what Jimi hoped to be was his album First Rays Of The New Rising Sun - that debacle convinced Hendrix's family they wanted Douglas miles away from Hendrix archival stuff)

well, i loved the energy in "band of gypsys" but certain parts were a bit repetetive, and i hated that one skat thing bythe bassist dude.
so, i would say
Electric ladyland (for basically, sure hes not a virtuoso guitarist, its the sound and the mood i love so much.. the merman song!!!)
and then,
band of gypsys
for the engery and great guitar sounds.. its soooooo othick!!!!
