FapFilter wrote: Sat May 07, 2022 10:43 am i'm perfectly happy with my M1. i don't use ultra low buffer settings though and only have an old i7 laptop from 2010 to compare to, but there's a thread over on GS where people are complaining how particularly bad M1 is for them on low latency settings compared to their old intel machines :help:
most of them seem to be fine though with their performances on higher latencies
I'm running Logic/Renoise/Reason @64 samples because I like the immediacy of the drumpads of my Launchpad. 32 is the lowest you can go in either app, and even setting any of the mentioned apps that low, they will still just keep on going. Don't know what the people on GS are on about.

not sure either, but that's what actually quite a few were complaining about

Can't confirm. Must be an audio interface issue. Can't really tell since, well... we are here and them complaining about it are over there  I do also have a GS account and must say, though, that the userbase is kinda... special in some ways. Musicians/artists are a weird folk

yes, i only have an account but never posted there i think.
but yes, they can be "special" but it's all in the eyes of the beholder. i've read things like this about kvr on other forums too though (not just GS)
in general though, there seem to be a lot more actual professionals around on GS than over here.
not saying that professional mixing engineers always have to be more tech savvy than the average Joe of course

Idk, changing buffer from 64 to 1024 on logic gives you 10% more leeway. since going M1, i never switch buffer from 64. When session overloads at 64 it's likely not going to play back at 1024.

Music/audio is my only source of income, which i guess makes me at least partially a professional, and m1 is my only computer.

It's kinda weird, isn't it? And I must admit that I don't know what is going on. For the longest time I was using 256 samples, because that's what I used in Windows. A year and a half passed, then I started to test different buffer sizes and realized that 64 does not significantly impact performance.

I'm amazed this thread is still floating around with the stupid title unchanged.

This talk about buffer size got me thinking about Waves Clarity Vx. Not saying it was lazy, but definitely rushed. I posted this in a different thread.
They released it as Non-Native for M1 even though their back catalog is already M1 native as of v13? WTF Waves!!

In Rosetta under Studio One it pegs my CPU at 90% and is unusable. Increased buffer size to 1024 and that solved it. With a single track and dual channel analysis of a single stereo clip it chews up almost 50% CPU according to Studio One.
Didn't have the same problems in Reaper, but I should go back and look what I had the buffer set to when I tested there.

I used to have an account there for many years, but I immediately deleted my account and left as soon as I heard about the name change, as I could no longer be a part of that site anymore, as the new name is offensive to me and goes against my morals.

I preferred the old name and that's how that site will always be known to me.

I believe that they were pressured into the name change by extremist SJWs who have nothing to do with audio, and I decided that I would have no part of it going forward.

If an extremist, lunatic group begins a petition to change the name of this site, because they find the letters KVR to be offensive and it triggers them, and this site were to bow to the lunatics, then I would immediately leave this site also.

No, the administrators finally changed the name after years of complaints. No "sjws."

Yes, I did read that explanation at the time, but I did find the timing of the change to be extremely suspicious, because it happened right around the same time that a group did actually start an online petition to get the name changed, so to me, it looks like they caved and gave in to the mob.

If the petition hadn't existed, and they decided to change the name, then I wouldn't have left probably. But either way, I guess it doesn't matter much now.

Seems a bit thin-skinned and 'snowflake'y to be so upset over a company choosing to rebrand in a more professional manner, to me.

If you see it as just a simple, innocent name change, then sure.

But I see it as part of a much wider issue, far beyond audio.

I don't mix politics with audio and I tend to shy away from those that do.
