Anyone Using Acid Pro?

I remember using Acid back when it was developed by Sonic Foundry in the late 90s. It was a real shame watching it whither on the vine by Sony. Looks like Magix are giving it some love (RIP Project5) so I bought it again. :) It's been a real nostalgia trip for me. Building a new project in the manner i would have back then. Loops, loops and more loops. :)

After using many DAWs since then, i am seeing it through new eyes and can say that it's actually quite good at what it is designed to do. Sure it's behind similar products in many respects but I must pay homage to my first daw and a once revolutionary piece of software.

I would like to hear from anyone else who feels the same way.

True story: I purchased Acid, I think version 3, whenever they were getting blown out way back when. Probably circa 2001/2002 or so. It was the first product that I owned that required authorization. I was pretty upset by the whole thing to be honest. Although I used it, and liked it for some things. It didn't last long for me. I tried it more recently because it came with some bundle. It was too unstable to use TBH. I don't even know which version I currently have in my Magix account, but I don't install it anymore.

Yes I agree that it is a little buggy and unstable. The interactive tutorial crashes, the toolbar reset to default for no logical reason, every mixer channel loads with the native Morph Pad effect plugins on every restart despite the an option setting to disable it, odd UI behaviour etc; and that's only after using it for a couple of days. Good thing i said a 'little love' from Magix.

ACID

-it is a rocker

snap has to be turned off to quantise properly

I'm happy that Magix can read the ancient code
I wonder what I want in here
-my site is gone and music a mess

Kudos for sticking with DX plugs. That's a blast from the past. :) Is there anything in the DX collection that you can't live without? ... I miss Project5.

I think it's good value at that price, warts and all.

Comes with ConvologyXT Complete too, which comes with all their IR libraries. Thats not a bad deal at all.

Well, Personally I PREFER DX-DXi over VST-VSTi as it is superior architecture, very rare to have a plug fail scan & scans are super quick...

Yeah, I use Project5...BEST MIDI workflow of anything out there plus still can use all the MFX plugs in that as well...

I threw away my Project5 discs many years ago. Didn't think i'd have nostalgia for them. Really regret it today.

What makes thing worse is that even if i could find used copies, the Cakewalk licence doesn't allow for resale.

I still have my 2.5 installer but it doesn't have all the content from the original disc version.

:(

I'm using the 1.5 version which don't have really anything with it but I don't care as I have alot anyways...I have the 2.5.1 with all the stuff but I like 1.5 with the SynOPs which went missing in version 2 and maybe it's just ME but 1.5 sounded a bit more analog to my ears...

Heres a pattern example in 1.5 I did on alonetone...I don't use alonetone anymore because it don't work with windows XP SP3 anymore-

The latest versions of ACID Pro, SOUND FORGE Pro, VEGAS Pro, Cakewalk by BandLab and REAPER all support DirectX Plug-ins, though I wonder why anyone would care about those when there are better free (or uber cheap) VST Plug-in replacements for almost [if not] all of that stuff.

"Notifications for Nothing" are annoying. Blocking me in return is a good way to avoid this.
