i actually like their new name better, even though the other didn't offend me and also thought it was a stupid SJW move.

yeah. I speculated a while ago that it has to do with unified memory, based on a few tests i saw on memory speed VS buffer sizes on AMD chips.sQeetz wrote: Sat May 07, 2022 9:17 pm It's kinda weird, isn't it? And I must admit that I don't know what is going on. For the longest time I was using 256 samples, because that's what I used in Windows. A year and a half passed, then I started to test different buffer sizes and realized that 64 does not significantly impact performance.
Probably that coupled with RISC architecture
The "much wider issue" being a slow but steady de-boomering of the planet?Synth Master Jedi wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 3:15 am If you see it as just a simple, innocent name change, then sure.
But I see it as part of a much wider issue, far beyond audio.
I don't mix politics with audio and I tend to shy away from those that do.

How does the one exclude the other?CrystalWizard wrote: Sat May 07, 2022 11:09 pm No, the administrators finally changed the name after years of complaints. No "sjws."
Anyway, f' it. I don't care about that site anyway. But, I reacted in the same way as Synth Maste Jedi on the name change. Pathetic.

What is it about the word, 'space' which offends you? An Einsteinian fundamentalist perchance?Synth Master Jedi wrote: Sat May 07, 2022 10:46 pm as the new name is offensive to me and goes against my morals.
For one who doesn't;
...you seem to have got your undergarments in a fair old tangle about this. Flouncing in the first instance, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing, and now going full gammon face again, bringing it up yourself unbidden. Strange that.Synth Master Jedi wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 3:15 am mix politics with audio and I tend to shy away from those that do.

How ironic, considering we talk about a site which had to change its name, because people protested ("people"... like... some people... which got offended... not "the people"...).donkey tugger wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 10:32 am To continue my Shakespearian quote-fest, methinks the lady doth protest too much.

I do believe my A-Level English Literature may be at odds with your definition of irony here; my point being (to clarify for those lacking in logic) specifically that for someone who professed to detest politics being mixed with audio, it was a bit rich for him to unbidden bring up that in an unrelated conversation. That's irony. Do you see?chk071 wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 10:47 amHow ironic, considering we talk about a site which had to change its name, because people protested ("people"... like... some people... which got offended... not "the people"...).donkey tugger wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 10:32 am To continue my Shakespearian quote-fest, methinks the lady doth protest too much.

On the second, I also do believe you have (as many conservatives seem wont to..) confused 'had to', with 'decided to'. Public pressure and disapprobation are not the same as coercion. Again, do you see?

Neither the word "gear" nor "space" particularly offends me when used in isolation, but when you pair them together, you get an awful new word which is a sanitized version for the previous name of a site that I used to be a member of for more than 10 years.donkey tugger wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 10:32 am What is it about the word, 'space' which offends you? For one who doesn't;
I am not a big fan of censorship or the sanitizing of words to accommodate the wishes of a minority of complainers. I walk on eggshells for nobody and every single SJW in the entire world can kiss my behind.
Whenever I see the new name, it will of course instantly remind me of the old name, as one can not just erase decades of history or undo the past. It doesn't matter what they would've called the new site for, I wouldn't have liked the new name.
A site can choose to do whatever they want with their name, they can change it every week if they so choose. And I have the choice to either be a member of that site or not. When they changed the name, I chose the latter. I just choose to stay away from things that I feel have become infected by the virus, and no, I'm not talking about any Corona Virus.
It's not that big of a deal really and I haven't thought much about it since I left, until I saw the site being discussed and mentioned in this thread.

Yep.. and each and every generation has a wide spread of societal viewpoints. And all generations will make that permanent leap into awayness. At least until some join the other side of the Robot Wars.Ploki wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 2:56 pmEventually all boomers will permanently stay away from everythingSynth Master Jedi wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 11:27 am I just choose to stay away from things that I feel have become infected by the virus, and no, I'm not talking about any Corona Virus.
