Also happy to see the "improved load times". It's just a bit annoying that even with a (windows) power machine you have this little waiting time for the plugin gui to open.

sure bug fixes/improvements are always great but come on, this is nothing to shine for a new big version.... loading time improvements should be something for all users and not v9? otherwise it smells like izotope

I think sound-first is a great approach!noiseboyuk wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 11:06 am I guess many people would find a sound they like first and then edit whatever synth it came from. That's one of the great strengths of the Arturia ecosystem that they have over other piecemeal competitors. Some people think synth-first, others sound-first.
Windows 10 and too many plugins

When they're rewriting a plugin from the ground up, it's essentially a brand new instrument. The Jupiter update was a great example of that. So while "updated CS-80, updated Prophet-5, updated Prophet-VS, updated Piano" don't feel like new instruments to some, they still are. Someone had to go in and basically create a whole new Prophet model. So you're getting 4 of these updated new instruments, 1 new Korg MS-20, and these new string/voice things. In addition to the SQ80 being added for people who didn't own it already. That would make this the biggest V-Collection update I can think of.

Sound first!! Agreed, or else what's the point?zzz00m wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 2:09 pmI think sound-first is a great approach!noiseboyuk wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 11:06 am I guess many people would find a sound they like first and then edit whatever synth it came from. Arturia will not improve on U-He when it comes to authenticity, no way.trusampler wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 12:58 pmBecause it's not perfected! Trust meelectro wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 10:09 am Why would Arturia want to rehash a Prophet 5 already perfected by U-he? And the freeware SQ8L is still a more accurate model than the SQ80V?
It can be much better, hopefully Arturia keeps getting closer to the source of all of their emulations.

Arturia always give updates for free of instruments you already own, unless it's a significant V2 type update. So whatever load time improvements there are for existing instruments should be included for those who don't upgrade.Caine123 wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 2:06 pm sure bug fixes/improvements are always great but come on, this is nothing to shine for a new big version.... loading time improvements should be something for all users and not v9? otherwise it smells like izotope

Why's that? What reason do you say that, Arturia actually makes hardware synths, and amazing ones at that! The idea they couldn't get better emulations than u-he eventually is beyond me.
For example I have a Prophet here, and when I load u-hes repro 5 , it doesn't wow me, or even get close to the real thing, maybe a rev 2, not the 5/10.Maybe I'm biased as I have the real synth here to compare them.
I'm all for Arturia making better strides at a great synth, why would anyone think otherwise is ridiculous.

I say it based on comparing equivalent arturia emulations with others like u-he, synapse and TAL. The Arturia one is always less convincing. I mean they often sound nice, I like many of them. But I still think they often have that Arturia sound, which is sort of phasey, or smeared at times. Perhaps it's the filters, not sure. I own V6 and I like many of the instruments but I generally prefer the digital synths, sampler and organs. That being said I do like the Buchla, and the Synthi seems pretty cool.trusampler wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 2:52 pm Why's that? And the hardware synths are fine I'm sure, but they aren't emulating analog, they actually are analog. So they aren't doing any modeling there.

Exactly my point, they know analog, as well as emulations, so the idea they won't get better in each new release doesn't make much sense to me. For example their new synths to my ears sound much better than those released just a few versions ago. ymmv

It's a matter of history. Uhe leap-frogged them. Arturia has been doing this longer than most and are only now updating the CS80 and Prophets?trusampler wrote: Sun May 08, 2022 2:52 pm I'm all for Arturia making better strides at a great synth, why would anyone think otherwise is ridiculous.
So, given all this, there's probably some doubt among some that any of the re-released analog models are going to be interesting enough to pay for the update. I have my doubts about the CS80 hitting the mark, we'll see. I suspect that much of the disappointment comes from the fact that they aren't doing any new digital synths, e.g., the aforementioned K5k.

I usually update every couple of versions - V4-V6-V8. When V is for Vintage, why add the Augmented instruments? Solely to add value, I guess, given there's not a lot of "ooh wow" new instruments there. I don't think Augmented Strings gives me anything I don't have elsewhere. I've also got "voice" sounds and textures pretty covered. Updates to existing stuff is always welcome but I just know my "upgrade" price will be 199 euros at least, as it has been for the last couple of years (until the sales anyway) and there's nothing there that makes me think "don't have one of those...". I'll probably wait for V10.
