Bottom Weight on Waz Not Waz

How is this enormous weight on rhythm section achieved?
Is it cause the bass hits on Beat 1 and 3....not very audible though?
Kick layering 909 and ???

Or Am I missing something? it can't be 'just well mastered'.....

I don't think it's about layering, when layering kicks a good practice is to use only one source for sub, otherwise you may run into phasing issues. It sounds like a job for a dynamic eq working in the low register.

I downloaded this track and made a bunch of tests. I got the best results by subtly distorting the sub for extra low frequency content and then treating it with a simple low shelf boost at around 60hz with a gentle slope, there was no need for dynamic eq. If you'd like that on a kick drum then I'd go the multiband route - separate the lows, distort the sub and put it back together.

I think the name of this thread gave it away - bottom weight. This track is old and audio techniques change with the time. Nowadays it is trendy to low cut everything, including the bass drum, but it wasn't always so. I don't hear as much deep bass in recent releases (I looked up a higher quality upload to judge).
