Generate… am I missing something?

I tried the mono version and I was underwhelmed. Now we’re a version along and I can’t seem to hear anything that’s causing me to want to download a demo. Is it just bad demos? There doesn’t seem to be very many demos at all. Can someone point me to some good ones, or is what I’m hearing basically it?

I absolutely love Generate's wide range of sound. It's easily at home in my Cinematic sessions as well as melodic techno and progressive house. The 1.3 update added even more cool sound-shaping features like wave shapers and an updated sequencer with the ability to modulate the effects.
Before investing in it, you may want to check out any audio demos from Spektralisk's Bleak: Sound of Dystopia for Generate. https://spektralisk.gumroad.com/l/pjidj Daniel did an amazing job at exploiting the synth's many cool features and unique audio engine to create 400 patches (250 Standard & 150 MPE compatible). It definitely has a modular kind of sound to it... in a good way!!
At first, I thought the plug-in was a bit niche. But I quickly found out that it was superb at synth bass and strange sci-fi tones. It has a character that I simply haven't heard in other synths. I've learned how to program quickly and process to bring out intricate details or noisy, fuzzy pads.
The Unfinished also released a patch library called Generate Noire https://www.theunfinished.co.uk/shop/generate-noire/ He has a 37 minute video walkthrough that may also help to show what's possible. I hope that helps. Cheers!!

This is made more or less solely with Generate:

Generate is a good synth, it's just that its character isn't something I necessarily have much use for. That said, as I type this I am listening to the Generate Noire demo tracks and there are indeed some nice sounds in there but nothing I can't get elsewhere. But, as much as I hate to say it, it's all very "digital" sounding, a little too pristine for my tastes most of the time. I prefer the kinds of results I get from Concept 2 and Mosaic Tape/Leads (Kontakt instruments).
Actually, there are some really nice pieces in those demos.

Are you saying that you wish it sounded a bit more analog?BONES wrote: Tue May 10, 2022 3:36 am Generate is a good synth, it's just that its character isn't something I necessarily have much use for. I’m in agreement. Something about it… It’s good, but too pristine for my tastes too. I think what I can get from Arturia Easel V or Aalto is enough of this kind of thing for me.

I don't know if I would call it digital per se.
I agree it doesn't sound analog but it does have an organic unpredictable nature to it although in a futuristic kind of way.
It's a very unique beast, that's for sure.

I dunno, it reminds me a lot of the sounds I used to get from my DX 9, back in the day. As in for every usable sound there were a dozen "WTF!?!" kind of sounds. ( I have Pendulate and have played with a bit.)
I've got to remember that I've got the Arturia Collection. I bought it when it was stupidly cheap but I don't think I have so much as looked at any of them since I installed 'em all. Another giant waste of money, no doubt.

One of the best sounding softsynths imo tbh. One of the most unique character too. I like it mainly for bass so far. I was not impressed with the initial mono free version for what it's worth, Generate itself though was a different story entirely for me.
I don't use it a ton b/c it crushes my cpu unless I use it in mono or fewer voices, it's one I aught to use more really. I dig the bandcamp lp btw, very nice it's playing as i type this. Don't agree that it sounds digitial, it's not emulating anything yet still has a sort of girth to it's sound that I don't associate w/ digital but depends what you mean.
Anyways big fan of Generate personally speaking.

I just bought it on sale but had been waiting for the price to drop so I could. Love the sound and very very easy to program.

I don’t think so. Definitely spend some time with Easel V. Not as flexible, but it has a great sound.BONES wrote: Tue May 10, 2022 6:53 am I dunno, it reminds me a lot of the sounds I used to get from my DX 9, back in the day. Yeah, we've used a few Easel patches from Analog Lab and I tried the demo a few years ago but decided it was a bit of a punish to work with.
