who d'foink is Jimi Hendris?

Jaeson Merrill wrote:well, i loved the energy in "band of gypsys" but certain parts were a bit repetetive, and i hated that one skat thing bythe bassist dude.
It was Buddy Miles -- the drummer -- skatting, not Billy Cox.
And yeah, the sounds and playing on Band of Gypsies are amazing. Guitar playing as musique concrete.
Cry of Love was a good one as well.

I'm a Hendrix fan. I've got a whole heap of his CDs and I've also got two CD that are very hard to come by, two versions of his recordings in Still's basement in 1968. One version has an ever so slightly different pitch and is slightly faster than the other version but they are from the same original recording).

"Old Times, Good Times" is the gem in that collection. The screaming solo organ blitz after the 4th chorus and guitar solo totally knocked my socks off. I thought...O...M...G...how on earth could they get an organ to scream like a lead guitar. It almost sounds as if the organ was played in place of a lead guitar. Unbelievable. If you want to listen to a truly screaming Hammond B3 then this is the track you want to hear, absolutely mindblowing B3 screamin and tearing glissandos on this one.

Cheers,
Ben

Tough choice - Experienced? Axis? Gypsys? Rainbow Bridge? Every single album by him?
Yes to the last option there, actually, but if I really HAD to choose one, it'd be Electric Ladyland just for that whole Mermaid / Moon Turn The Tides side and the long, bluesy Voodoo Chile. 8)

You'll have to forgive me, but my purile side couldn't help doing this:

Very difficult choice but I'd have to pick Electric Ladyland second to hearing him live. Didn't get to meet him though. Envy, envy.
