I tried the black booster from NSP but can't get it to work with the DAW I use.

Any ideas? Just looking for a simple 1 knob or two knob VST gain booster similar to a guitar pedal. https://www.amazon.com/Dunlop-MC401-Boo ... 2689&psc=1

Free is ideal, but will consider paid if they are really clean and transparent.

How about Blue Cat Audio gain suite (free)? It goes beyond simple, but there's a single channel version.

Most DAWs have some kind of utility plugin that has a simple, digital gain control. Doesn’t get much cleaner than that. A simple EQ plugin that has an output gain control would also work.
Or some free plugin like the already mentioned BlueCat one or dmgaudio TrackControl

Good find thank you, checking it out now.

Speaking of blue things, BlueLab Audio set all of their plugs free right before they went out of business, and they're nice, including their gain plugins.Their site is gone, but the plugs can still be downloaded at:

airwindows bitshift gain is technically the cleanest, because it shifts bits not re-interpolates values

This one always worked great for me.

Nembrini Audio also has a TubeScreamer plugin but I liked the sound of TSE's better.

I wouldn’t call that “clean” though. Quite the opposite :hihi:

-/+60dB of gain is about enough to explore the full tonal range of Fuse Audio Labs plugins.

Good stuff.

I have used that before, very good tube screamer emulation.
