For me the standout feature of TAL J-8 is the unison "spread", which spreads the voices across the stereo field even when you're not in unison mode. The original hardware actually doesn't have this feature, but it's a great fit for a classic poly synth (and one of the things that made the OB-Xa stand out at the time). Have to remember to turn that off when comparing it to other emulations if you're aiming for accuracy (but honestly, every JP-8 emulation should have it).

Well this is the dirty secret of it all, imo. For all that everyone on this forum and perhaps this thread especially obsesses over every precise alignment between every real and virtual component between hardware and software, glibly consigning those deemed not worthy to the virtual scrap heap, not a single person actually listening to a finished track who had nothing to do with its making will care. Not one.

Does it sound good in context? Does it evoke what you want it to evoke? Did it inspire you to write something?

The MS-20 would have been "better" if it had PWM. Now - virtually - it does. But it means that you're no longer making an authentic MS-20 sound. You are no longer "pure". Same thing with the JP8 and voice dispersion. Does that matter? Nope.

Except - just possibly - to the person making the music. The only way ANY of this stuff matters is that it gets peoples' juices flowing. If you get off on having precisely the same characteristics as some hardware from 40 years ago, make wonderful music with it. It has inspired you - and that's the real worth.

Course, if the new filters just sound subjectively BETTER (as opposed to different), then that's another thing altogether.

We are getting closer. Adding V Collection 8 to the cart and then trying to checkout shows nothing in cart and cart value is shown as US$ 0.00.

Wtf, it's cheaper to upgrade from a single instrument than if you already own V8? They want 199 euros from me.
My bad shorthand - V Collection 8 + SQ80 (have amended post)
