Note that presets include Analog Lab, Pigments, preset banks, etc., but the difference after updating is over 500 presets are now missing?

I was hoping that preset count would increase due to the new synths.

Did anyone observe anything similar?
Web site says there are 14 000 pre-sets in V9....sometimes you have to download the new pre-set banks separately (you did in Pigments anyway)

I think I will wait until I update as there is often a bug fix soon after release!
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Sorry, I should have mentioned I don't own V Collection. Only Analog Lab V separately. I do understand that Analog Lab only contains select preset from V Collection 9, but I was surprised to see the number go down than go up, which was more obvious. A little disappointing, but no big deal.

There's "include legacy sounds" option, which was not enabled previously too. I enabled it and it does seem to increase preset count. But the difference observed is with that option disabled.

Last time the 8.1 update took quite a while, so it might not be so soon for VC9.

Never mind, installed newest Analog Lab, and some other instrument's browsers now show correct presets.Weird

Strange thing with presets. Some updated instruments like the Prophets, Piano, and CS-80 don't show any presets in the browser. You can still see them from the pull-down menu, so they are all there, but not on the browser. Newer instruments like the Korg and Augmented, show the presets in both the browser and pull-down.

I think the CS-80 is a very misunderstood synth. There is nothing inherently special or magical about its 12-db filters or its oscillators, albeit analog. It was a powerhouse because of the polyphony paired with the Performance Features (velocity when nothing else had it, aftertouch when nothing else had it, a ribbon controller that literally nothing else had, foot-pedal configurations nothing else had...). Vangelis is first and foremost a keyboard *player* / *performer*, so an instrument with all these expressive features was destined to become his favorite -- and the rest is history. Well, of course, he had to couple it with a Lexicon 224 as well, of course!

I think people expect that you press a key on a CS-80 and some glorious Blade Runner patch just appears out of nowhere. Instead, you get two kinda-thin oscs running into 12db filters..... you gotta run it into spacey reverb, and you gotta know how to play it.

The time value ranges on the CS-80 V 4 envelope sliders are wildly different than the previous version -- they are much, much shorter! The maximum length on the Filter envelope's attack knob is a mere 580 ms !! I don't have a spec sheet for an actual CS-80 so I have no idea how accurate this is or isn't, but that is enormously shorter than the max on the previous versions of this plugin -- 20,000 ms !!

Surely this means the V4 can't load any presets from the V3, the envelopes are just completely, utterly different things. Anybody know about the timing of the original's envelopes? Surely this change is motivated by a desire for accuracy, I'd hope!

I am noticing that it seems a lot less fiddly to program now, thanks to the envelope range not being so enormous. Previously, you'd hit the upper range of the sliders and the tiniest movement could jump you forward multiple seconds worth of time. Now it's...practically snappy.

I think the new augmented instruments are really cool, amazing amount of 'synth' options, far more than a romper...a bit Omnisphere, a bit output Kontakt instruments...nice addition.

When they remodel an instrument, they aren't generally patch compatible. You couldn't load Jupiter 8 V3 patches into the remodelled V4 version, for these kinds of reasons.

They usually come with all-new presets...

There seem to be a bunch of new preset packs available to download through Analog Lab, which were all free for me. They are:

Pop Hyperwaves (Prophet VS)
Vector Atmospheres (Prophet VS)
Nexus Cinematic (CS80)
Crosswave Techno (SQ80)
Lo-fi Cartridge (SQ80)
French Connections (MS20)
Circuit Slayer (MS20)
Downtempo Dreams (Prophet 5)
Ethereal Minimalism (CS80)
Prophetic Soul (Prophet 5)
Beatmaker's Haze (Analog Lab)
EDM Infinity (Analog Lab)
Platinum Piano (Analog Lab)
Piano Imaginarium (Analog Lab)

so, i think i'll wait until black friday or sometime late 2023 for the pre-v10 sale.
It’s $199 for V8 owners. The other products have no bearing on the price. If you already owned SQ80, it would be $150 for you.

Don’t expect a Black Friday sale. They didn’t have one for V8 the year it came out. I suspect you’ll be waiting a year before you see it for this price again.

Honestly, if you’re willing to wait a year or more to get it, you don’t really want it, so why get it at all? If you do want it, it makes no sense to wait so long just to save $50. Time is money as they say, and lost time is lost money. Instead, just use the 4x payment plan and enjoy it now.

we all have our reasons. the new stuff looks interesting and i'd like to check it out but like many people have too many plug ins already and plenty to explore.. but desire/gas is what it is. if i wasn't between jobs i'd probably buy it but such is life. regardless, nothing in it is going to change my life or solve any problems. it's a luxury item essentially and i have enough of those.

so it goes. ymmv of course.

Does anyone know the upgrade price for V Collection 7 or earlier versions?

I doubt that many of us old-farts really need the 4x payment plan. It's just a choice to use something else for the time being. I've found this approach to be great. New synths are new inspiration, but they're new to you whenever you get them. So, always look for the new inspiration at the lowest price.

One thing that's holding consistent for now, as predicted, is that they can only push the game of higher prices for disloyal customers so far. Hence, V10 will probably cost about the same to upgrade as V9 from something that's much older than V8. Can anyone on V7 confirm their price? If you're on V6 and don't have SQ80, it's $299. The normal upgrade price for disloyal customers, as of yesterday, is $349.

It’s not about “disloyal customers.” It costs what it costs, but you don’t have to pay for the synths you already own, again. V6 and V7 owners don’t own as many of the V9 synths as V8 owners, so they are buying more synths when they upgrade.
