This update was worth it for me ($149) just for Augmented Voices. I’m loving it. I’m a big fan of vocal synth stuff: like outlook exhale, plogue Chipspeech, mutable instruments euro stuff, and sample libraries like the Soundiron’s Voices of Wind and miscellaneous choir libraries. It’s as if Arturia was reading my mind.

Is it not safe to say that Arturia are the best in the business at the vintage synth modeling game now.
On par with the other elites (U-He, Synapse, Tal, Softube) for authenticity but above them because of the sheer volume of top tier emulations they offer. None of the other companies can compete with that right now.
And their efficiency is ridiculous as well... What is that 4 brand new emulations built from scratch in about a year and a half! It takes longer for other companies to make one emulation! Of course Arturia is a bigger company which allows them to be able to do this but damn.
All this must make them rank number one no?
Yay or nay, what are peoples thoughts
Also they'll probably redo all the synths up to version 5 right, after that is when they made the turn in their modeling abilities...

Pretty impressed with the Piano update as well after calibrating my Roland Fantom, I wasn't expecting these Pianos to sound and play so Cohesive in a mix.

See, that’s where I disagree, because it’s sort of irrelevant. I mean, I’d love to hear an a/b comparison, but the odds of me getting a CS-80 any time soon are pretty much zero, unless Behringer makes one, and even then I’d say that there was no way of knowing if they got it right. At some point, you have to say, “do I like this,” because leaning on comparisons can be maddening.mholloway wrote: Wed May 11, 2022 12:12 amIs that really a meaningful comparison, though? Seems pretty murky to me, frankly. I'd rather hear from someone who actually has a CS-80, but, well.....yeah. Oh well.teilo wrote: Wed May 11, 2022 12:00 am Comparing the CS-80 V4 to a real CS-80 (via careful observation of online videos)
One more thing I’ll add is that I think Arturia takes liberties when they decide what parameter ranges to include. I think the entire range is represented, but my guess is they extend it for fun. I don’t mind that at all, but it does lead to the purists yelling, “it’s nothing like…” Again, this is just a theory, as I’ve never personally owned any synth in the V Collection except for a Juno 106, and that was in the early 80s, so there’s no way I’d recall what the parameter ranges were. Oh wait, I forgot about the SQ-80. I did own one of those a few years back… again, still too much time.

I have a question. I have V Collection 8, Pigments and SQ-80 V. My upgrade price is $149. I assumed it was because of SQ-80, but people are saying they own 8 and Pigments and got that deal? Does that mean I will end up with two licenses of SQ-80? Or that the deal kind of sucks a bit?

I entirely agree. So it looks like I'm going to have to buy a Hydrasynth.jamcat wrote: Wed May 11, 2022 12:21 am I think for an instrument like the CS-80, much of the performance character comes from the tactile experience of playing the polyphonic aftertouch and the ribbon controller. A VST may be able to nail the sound (and I have no doubt V4 does), but you need a CS-80 to get a CS-80 performance. Just as much of the experience of playing a piano comes from the weighted keys, double escapement mechanism, pedal action, and the hammers physically striking the strings.
Seriously. Why can't someone make an awesome polyphonic aftertouch keyboard with a ribbon? The only way to get one is to buy a synth.

The Arturia version was made in cooperation with Korg, so it should be pretty good.

If my memory serves me well, Behringer is planning on building one right now. I think I saw them teasing a mock-up one a while back.teilo wrote: Wed May 11, 2022 2:09 am Seriously. Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here.

I own 8 and Pigments and its $199. Seems to me they're not basing the pricing on anything but prior version of V Collection and stuff they added (like OB or SQ). I own other stuff as well (like the FX collection). Still $199.zerocrossing wrote: Wed May 11, 2022 2:03 am I have a question. I have V Collection 8, Pigments and SQ-80 V. My upgrade price is $149. But yes you'd have two licenses. I owned the OB prior to 8 coming out and had two licenses of it. Sold the "standalone" one.

This is spot-on Zerocrossing. This is exactly the problem I have with people who used to own Synth X then compare it to some emulation and say "its nothing alike! I owned Synth X hardware!". Unless you've got the hardware RIGHT NOW opinions are mostly useless. I just bought a real SH-2 to compare to the Roland plug-out.zerocrossing wrote: Wed May 11, 2022 2:01 amSee, that’s where I disagree, because it’s sort of irrelevant. Nothing I can see here that's worth $200. Even at $99, I doubt I'd upgrade.

All good experiments comes with a cost, and this sounds like a fun comparison. Slightly OT, but how do they compare with your ears? I actually like the sound of the Roland plugouts.rezoneight wrote: Wed May 11, 2022 3:06 am I just bought a real SH-2 to compare to the Roland plug-out.Expensive experiment.

Also got my Pro One serviced finally go might do the same experiment with it vs Repro. Something to keep me busy over the summer.

Yeah doing proper tests take time - but do post after you are starting to get a feel of the differences. The SH2 is a synth that is full of serious character.
