Will chip shortages affect hardware companies?

well it's effecting every company in different ways, as not all chips/components are in demand.

but yes, many will slow down, but i don't see them going under, not yet, you'll see a lot of the newer kids on the block go first, then worry.

Moog being one of the more popular companies with pretty high prices though, so, I figure they're alright.

Yea, they seem to rake in lots of money on those synths. I do wonder if a bigger organization will acquire them similar to the acquisition of Sequential.

Moog will be in the same doldrums as all other hw companies. If they go under, then we'll likely see several others go under. I wasn't aware of any mutterings that Moog were about to go under though. I don't have a clue what their profitability is - they go for the sell-fewer-at-high-price business plan rather than the sell-loads-at-bargain-price one. Likely both have pitfalls. And there don't seem to be that many companies on the larger side that don't end up being bought out/in partnership by/with other competitors. Even Behringer don't go it alone. I dunno, who owns Moog? I'd be surprised if it was still Bob.

Moog is employee owned.

Which is mostly a marketing ploy. They're an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) which means employees get a small amount of stock as a benefit based on their pay and tenure. The CEO owns 51% of the stock.
It's not some communist co-up where they split up the profits equally between all workers every Friday and call each other "comrade". For Joe the Janitor it's like working any other salaried job except he gets a tiny amount of stock as a benefit.
