Another thing that is SO annoying:

- the volume-setting (the handle) of audio-clips is really per-clip, instead of per-recording. This - again - makes zero sense. When you forget to manually reset it before recording additional takes to a clip, there's f**k all you can do about it afterwards. Do they really believe it makes any sense whatsoever like this or do they know it is an immensely nonsensical implementation but nontheless prefer to keep adding devices even though there are a gazillion plugins available for every possible en impossible function?

The problem is the addicts. Just like in gambling, and drinking, and smoking etc, the vast majority of the profits come from the 10-15% percent who spend an insane amount of money, while the rest of us (who vote with our wallets) don't make a dent.
I can't believe the amount some people have spent on REs over the past few years. Thousands of dollars/eurus/pounds. Each. Thousands. Reason Studios make a boatload of coin selling stuff, not related to the core Reason at all.
Here's a recent Reason Talk addict:
"I brought R11 suite just because
when RS released Friktion again I brought it just because
then Algorithm got released and I brought it just because

But I'm a sucker for a sale and no doubt it would be hard to ignore the two devices that I'm currently missing from the collection if we actually see a sale. Luckily mimic is not available as an RE or I would be adding that as well just because"

I'm a huge Reason fan. My voting with my wallet and passing on upgrades and REs has done shit to improve anything in Reason Land.

Reason Studios just has to crank out "devices" to make money. And they are going to sell hats and shirts soon. Why bother with workflow and sequencer updates?

Then why bother with a DAW made by a company that ignores workflow and sequencer updates? I get it if you’re a hobbyist that cares nothing about anything else but having fun with your tools. But if your main goal is making MUSIC, surely the tools are secondary, a means to an end.

It's done wonders to your wallet though. ;) Not sure if you can ask for much more. There are thousands of users. Whose feature request is the most pressing/important?

Post

- track folders & sequencer organizing stuff
- independent clip looper / launcher
- generell worflow improvements to save clicks & time

Personally don't care about M1 or upcoming VST3

It is very sad that they do not make any workflow & sequencer updates on a regular basis anymore. So lets make some pressure, that they start finally implementing DAW updates. Write them via feedback formular on their website or via soc. media, before too many people leave the boat!

Make them move, folks, make them move!

:?
Unfortunately, unless a DAW developer is pretty early in establishing an expectation of change, the culture among the users becomes uber conservative. This is something that affects a lot of DAWs. Generally, professionals tend towards conservative - in that they don't want disruptive change.

However, this also creates a pressure that works against changes that can bring in new users, but may be bemoaned by existing users.

Reason is in the same boat as DAWs like Samplitude Pro X and Pro Tools. IMO, it doesn't have a user base that values innovation. People are okay with the status quo, and they have a fairly decent core of their users who would be willing to pay high prices for bare minimum improvements.

IMVHO, it is better to switch to a DAW that delivers what you want or need than sit around wasting years of your life waiting on updates that won't materialize. Don't expect much out of them. The pressure needs to come from the majority of Reason users, and that pressure needs to be in the form of ignoring paid upgrades and refusing to subscribe until the developers offer greater value for continued support.

I got the upgrade to EZDrummer 3 recently, which turns out to be exclusively VST3. It forced me to look at another DAW. I got Studio One very cheap and spent a few days watching how-to videos. Moving out of my idiosyncratic Reason environment was a learning curve (long time since I used another host) but I'm really happy with this set-up now.
I can still use Reason as itself or plugged-in. I get to play with my new VST3, plus MIDI instruments, drag and drop and some useful MIDI tools (just what I've discovered so far).
We're lucky to be able to access all this stuff, and even cheaper on KVR market.
As I say a few video tutorials with a drink in hand, leading to new possibilities.
I'm not giving up Reason at all but I was kind of forced to expand because of the (unannounced)VST3-only nature of my EZDrummer upgrade.

I have Studio One Pro and sometimes use it but my main DAW is still Reason. The bulk of my tracks is self-recorded audio - it's mostly very conventional old-school stuff (loads of electric and acoustic plucked instruments, acoustic and electric pianos, string-machines, vocals, etc. - stuff like that) and since I record it (mostly) all myself and I don't have a ton of time, I can't practice all the parts to a level where I'd always get them right on the first or second take. I tend to record +10 takes (weirdly enough I found out that I often stop at take 13 :o) and maybe I'll redo some of them afterwards or record a new or alternative part instead. It is a lot of takes. I'll do a bit of comping here and there too.
And for me, Reason is by far the easiest, cleanest and tidiest of all DAWs I tried in regards to dealing with audio for such a scenario. Also its Audio Editors help making this suberbly easy and painless for the most part of it. Studio One is a complete mess when it comes to multi-takes, Cubase (of which I own the full version too (11 atm)) even more so. These DAWs are imo dreadful when it comes to dealing with audio in comparison to Reason, which - the one or the other super-annoying brain-fart aside which I mentioned here - is just superb in regards to this.

This is for me even more so the case because Blocks, which is an absolute unique feature of Reason, allows you to store additional stuff behind the end-marker. For me that is much neater than Studio One's Scratch Pad('s).

A lot of this may of course not concearn you much if your music mostly consists of MIDI-tracks feeding virtual instruments so your mileage may vary greatly.

Having said all this , ironically enough I always upgrade to the latest version of Studio One because they always deliver a lot and you imo always get a whole lot and a half for your money, while I am still at Reason V11 and perhaps would still even be at V10 had I known what I know now when V11 came out. The Props-of-today's main strength is marketing bollocks and asking for a lot of money over mostly nothing. They've become the epitome of hot air. And I'm not willing to partake in paying the costs of their tardy, most irrelevant coding, obviously terrible project-managements skills and a general obvious lack of any understanding of the mechanics of brand-loyalty, the importance of a heathly customer-relationship, the shortcomings of their own product, the relevance of features, yadda yadda...

That's interesting..am mostly audio (guitars and voice) myself, with added vst drums and some synth bits for gravy..have yet to try recording audio in S1.
Mm there is no telling really when or if we will see some standard features added to reason...they've always just done there own thing...I'm not filled with confidence after their buyout and they could keep us waiting forever .
I guess im feeling after just a few days watching bid tutorials that I could use both reason and studio one depending.
I take your point about audio editing, I haven't tried it in S1 yet so cant compare. Yeah it does seem easy to comp and crossfade in reason...guess to listen to takes if you have 13 odd to compare.

Audio editing is stronger in Samplitude, Pro Tools and Cubase. Studio One wouldn't be my first choice for that, but it also depends on the type of editing tooling you require.

Samplitude Pro X Suite is definitely tops if you want to get as close as possible to something like WaveLab Pro in production DAW. You only really need like the X4 version since I don't think anything beyond that brings enough value to justify the (fairly high) upgrade costs.

Good crossfade editor, great [non-destructive] wave editing, Spectral Editing, decent audio restoration plug-ins (ignorable if you have RX), and the ability to round trip to any external audio editor when needed.

I do hate that you cannot round trip in Studio One without ARA or RX Connect. Cubase at least allows you to do so with WaveLab [Elements or Pro].

I do a ton of Audio Editing and Music Design, and this is part of the reason I couldn't stick with Studio One.

Interesting actually to hear how others work...
Semi old school, I'll do 3 or 4 takes, all I need is the split and an adjustable crossfade to be honest. That's got to be basic to every daw I hope? As said, reason does this nicely in that you can audition multiple takes all in one window and suchly.
Oh and If I'm sure no one is looking I might use the pitch correction on the odd bum lead guitar notes,

Reason Studios have so far implemented and are implementing the most requested features. Vst support, Rack as Vst, HD GUI, a modern sampler, improved browser, upcoming M1 and Vst3 support.
So they're on the right track but the problem is how glacially slow all this happens.
IMO the next big requested features are things like folders, track makers, midi workflow features like capture, chase, comping and various midi editing features.
I'm sure they'll get there eventually but who knows when.
Problem is they need all that plus more to make the next version worth the $200 upgrade.
