Any content creators here?

How to do this, that and the other. Share, learn, teach. How did X do that? How can I sound like Y?

Chris Hawkins wrote: Tue May 10, 2022 11:41 am I have not posted here in a while. I used to back in the day to promote products and at that time there were no issues with it. Times have changed, I guess.

I had no intentions of spamming, just thought I would do an FYI post as I thought there would be many here interested in such a platform. Sorry for any hairs I might have raised from the post.

Cheers
No issues here. Thank you for making us aware of your platform. :)

There are a few tutorial makers here that might be interested in what you have to offer. Don't let the negativity put you off posting!

I don't think any of us has an issue with you promoting your product. With 162 posts since 2004, you're a participating member of the community imho.

We just expressed our doubts about its effectiveness, since the typical content creator only communicates in one direction.
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. Image

Thanks guys.

As mentioned, I have not posted on these, or any other, forums much in the past few years. I used to be a moderator on the ole cubase.net forums back in the early 2000s - those were fun times. 8)

i dunno, it kind of makes sense for example gear demos, they're not "art" (although some do make an art of it) or tutorials.
pre internet, that would be "magazine content"

i just didn't realise it was going to be a platform for that when he asked :)

i don't do demos or tutorials (what could i teach anyone? no clue what im doing!) mine are live recordings or edited videos to present my music, so therefore not content but art.

it's different that's all, doesn't make it bad though.

I was going to do a music project with a girl in her 20s, and she asked to hear some of my stuff, and I sent her some songs, and said something like "Cool. I really like your content"... and exactly like you said, I was actually kind of offended that she would refer to my songs as "content"... rather than "songs" or even just "music", I guess I felt it cheapened it in a way.

yeah that's different, that's not content.
not necessarily cheapens it, just wrong imo. but to your original point about younger folk using it like this, then you are correct.

at least she liked it so that's good, and just shrug it off as kids using the wrong language. keep the positive :D

Do an occasional video but i don't create content (or produce). If someone called what i do as "content" i would have to smile, it has been called many worse things. :)
Really it's mostly semantics. Funniest thread in a while.
No offense meant to the OP or anyone.

Content creator is such a generic term as to be meaningless. Does the content have to be online? Is a novelist a content creator? If not, is someone who writes online drivel targeted at search engine optimization? What about a farmer? I mean they create food content. A gardener perhaps? They create the content of a salad. Does a gardener become a content creator if they take pictures of their veggies and post them on Tik Tok?

A fun read this thread has become :)

I never thought about the term 'content' in a negative way, just a term that is the norm of today. I think it works for a site like the one we are working on. The videos posted can vary in what they cover. They could be a tutorial on a production technique, a tutorial relating to a specific instrument or even musical theory. Heck, they could even be reviews on gear.

As there are several genres the video could produced for, 'content' seemed like the best word.

No, it's another word for "wanker".

There are a few others that always annoy me - "wellness", "wealth creation" or "wealth management" and "mindfulness". They are all bullshit marketing terms that have no meaning beyond simple words like health, money and hippie.

I thought makers were giant worms that shit in the desert? Even millenials/genZ+1 should know that. Actually, especially millenials/genZ+1 should know that. :x

Interesting platform. Needs more content ;) And more strategy :|

Some thoughts: you need a more effective rating system or some star power behind your marketing or something to grab viewers. There's way too many people making 'music content' out there, and a lot of it is really crappy. There's also a lot of companies selling masterclasses and stuff like that. Before I'd pay for one, I'd like to know if it's good. That's the idea with a 'masterclass', you get somebody to teach it who's famous as a master of his craft, otherwise it's just a 'class'.

And in reverse. Creators will want to be able to promote their videos on other social channels.

What's your plan for pulling viewers away from youtube? This is YAP (Yet Another Platform). On that note: isn't a subscription model all the rage now? And a much better idea, see: skillshare. Major bottleneck there is you need a lot of content to go subscription, otherwise viewers won't come or leave after a month.

What about exclusivity and rights? How are you gonna avoid creators posting the whole thing on a competing platform? Like, I go through your platform, but at the same time I'm spreading them through something like Locals or whatever. You wouldn't really know unless you subscribed to me there.

I said: "Before I'd pay for one.." To be frank, I wouldn't actually. The actual value in tutorial content is very low. I've learned everything I know for free. There's so much of it, people are less inclined to pay for it... even if it's good quality. Honestly, producing high quality tutorials for software companies seems like a much more viable business model. A big enough company is gonna put out their own tutorial content, for free because it's also good marketing for them. You're competing with free.
