you don't need to assign slices to individual groups.
but you MUST slice loop and map it to different pads.

These days, my favourite drum sampler is Playbeat; unfortunately, it's very lacking in the sound edit department as its focus is its sequencer. Now, if TAL integrated a sequencer as powerful as Playbeat's, they can have my wallet.

Whay sampler has good sequencer?
I love XLN XO but sequencer there is pretty basic.

Papen's Punch is a fairly versatile sampler/sequencer but the sequencer is not intuitive. XILS Labs Stix is also a very versatile sampler/sequencer and, in fact, is one of my favourites along with Arturia Spark, Triaz and DrumComputer, all of which allows you to tweak your samples and also have sequencers. And, from what I've read, BreakTweaker can also do these things but I've yet to demo it.

A sequencer would be a waste of time and resources .
It’s a drumsampler , not a drummachine and patrick said taldrum already has taken a lot more time then he expected .
What’s wrong with your daw’s sequencer ?
I sequence taldrum from either renoise , loomer architect and even from hardware , cirklon 2.
In all cases it works flawlesly.
