Hardware version of Tone2 synths

...and how to do so...

I am thinking about building a hardware version of my Tone2 synths for myself.
I've come across the Radxa Rock Pi X 4GB/64GB which has an Intel Atom CPU. It can even run Win10. Has anyone experience with such a Intel compatible board or a similar one?

Hallo Markus!
What synthesizer do you want to make Hardware?

And what about sales of this? I have long dreamed of having a box with Electra2 inside :)
Cheers!

I don't really know for sure buy i kinda doubt it's fast enough for that purpose.

All synths should run in the environment. It will be only a prototype. There are not plans for selling it.

Speed could indeed be an issue and is something I should check out before I buy the hardware

I have a similar project but still haven't found a board with good quality audio interface. So, for now the best fit is a mini-ITX board with a PCI slot and fit a ESI juli@ card (has good quality audio + MIDI I/O). I haven't found an easy way to add 1-2 lines LCD screen and few encoders/buttons to control the synth.

You could use a USB soundcard.

I think I'll use a board with a laptop CPU because of noise & thermals.

As an OS I considered Windows 7 embeded or Win 10 IoT . Haven't worked with them so far.

Hardware baby of Icarus and Electra will be amazing :)

I decided to use a Mini ITX board. It comes with a rather weak Intel dual core CPU, but should be sufficiently fast to run a single instance of the plugins and has a passive cooling.

The casing will be a 19'' rack.

For the screen I am thinking about this one:

Markus
it will be better to use the motherboard, as in Dell 5175?
I load 8 instances of Electra2, with 4 gb memory and 2.2 ghz processor.

Post

It only needs to be able to run a single instance. Some hardware components have arrived now and i started assembling it

Do you will add external control for parameters? Or control only through the touch screen?

Post

I bought an Arduino Uno. There will be several buttons on knobs on the front panel. The Arduino will read that state of them and send it to the main processor with USB/serial communication.
Touch screen will also be possible as well as the possibolity to connect a USB mouse and keyboard.

Any updates Markus?

Meanwhile I received most hardware components. It will be delayed, since I must focus on the updates for our existing products. They will get a zoom-able GUI with 4K and HiDpi support.

Post

I take it you will need a midi merge of some sort as well?
