The Conquest of Paradise ... RIP

Terrible loss, so influential.

We played 'I'll Find My Way Home' at my dads funeral, one of his faves.

RIP.

Losing so many of the legends these days. Blade Runner wouldn't have been the masterpiece that it is without Vangelis & the CS-80. RIP.

Let's not conflate the two. The soundtrack was epic. The film was still shit. The book.....also shit.

RIP. I had a Vangelis album when I was 13 years old--damn cool.

[The book was fine and novel for its time.]
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

Are you insane? Blade Runner and Alien are both visionary films from a master craftsman that set a new tone for science fiction films that has dominated ever since. Any dickhead coould have done the music for Blade Runner and it would still have been a cinematic masterpiece. The book and the film are so comletely different, I don't know why you'd even mention them together.

Anyway,I'm listening to Vangelis' last album, from 2021, and it has its moments. It's not my thing at all, and it feels like it could have been made at any time in the last 40 years, but it's not terrible for someone who has been at it so long. Interestingly, all the local obits rave about Chariots of Fire and Blade Runner barely rates a mention. It kind of makes sense because it is the only piece of his that people here would recognise. TBH, though, I didn't know it was him until just now.

Albedo 0.39 and Spiral were/are two of my favourite albums. And then along came the Blade Runner soundtrack to cement his place in history.

RIP :(

The master is gone. Such an extraordinary talent. I still play L'Apocalypse des Animaux (sort of proto-ambient music) all the time. RIP.

RIP Vangelis.

I still sometimes find myself singing the main theme from Conquest of Paradise. He had a real knack for making epic catchy melodies and grand arrangements.
"Wisdom is wisdom, regardless of the idiot who said it." -an idiot

"They don't ban hate speech; they ban speech they hate." -an oracle

The melody of "La Petite Fille de la Mer" pops into my head every now and then--beautiful.

Yes, that melody is brilliant and the less melodic ambient material later in the album is stunning IMO.
