Vangelis RIP

We are blessed to have had 79 years of Vangelis on this planet to share his talents with us. First album I went to the store and bought for myself was a 45 of the Chariots of Fire theme. At the time it must have blown me away, but unfortunately the song has become a parody of itself. I also remember seeing Blade Runner in the theater as a lad and reading Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep immediately after. Definitely in the camp the film is a masterpiece in no small part due to the score. Today, I find myself more an Aphrodite's Child type.

The book.....also shit.lnikj wrote: Thu May 19, 2022 8:58 pm Losing so many of the legends these days. Blade Runner wouldn't have been the masterpiece that it is without Vangelis & the CS-80. RIP.

A pioneer and a maverick. A huge influence on my music life.
Spiral
Albedo
Soil Festivities
Apocalypse des animaux
China
Heaven and Earth
Friends of Mr.Cairo
Antarctica
Blade Runner
1492 Conquest of Paradise
Direct…
…at least 11 must-have albums for me. Can’t say that about any other electronic music artist. Nobody else has produced so many albums that I love, and have played so often.
The China album has always stood out for me as a great example of such beautiful fusion between the acoustic and electronic worlds.
RIP - The paradise will be conquered now

I'm shocked
He was truly my inspiration.
I loved both his music and the man.

Chariots of Fire, the Blade Runner soundtrack, and the music from Cosmos (from Albedo 0.39 and Heaven and Hell) were hugely influential to me. Second only to Isao Tomita in my childhood, but Vangelis was the better composer and an excellent multi-instrumentalist.
Albedo 0.39 is still a fantastic album to listen to.

Good obituary for him here, with some details of his collaborative work I wasn't aware of:

My favorite musician of all time in any genre. I was so sad to hear this news yesterday. I have never heard another artist who could so masterfully express and juxtapose emotions of triumph and melancholy. Every piece of his music means even more to me today. I thought about naming a few of my favorite albums, but realized that nearly every one of them would end up on the list. He will be greatly missed, but his genius will live on.

I found out just a few minutes ago. Sad news for sure.
I always loved his music. Blade Runner is (of course) just awesome. Remember the show Cosmos? That was another perfect fit for his style.
