In Windows Security / Virus and Threat Protection Settings / Exclusions / Add or Remove Exclusions you can add folders. So I just add the roots of all my sample drives in there. (this is W10, hopefully W11 doesn't change it?)

Nice tip thanks. I’d say I’m over 30 seconds as well on a new 4tb ssd (2nd laptop drive, not windows drive). And 7s for thinned version sounds about right. Generally a good strategy is to leave thinning on for keyscape and just turn it off if you really want to play for a while or record a take. I don’t think anyone would notice the difference for some light playing or a few chords here and there. I probably wouldnt ever notice the difference actually.

The only thing about thinning is - ironically - it increases your real-world load times because the preview mode doesn't work any more. It's only about 3-4s for me to load the thinned C7, but I can play the C7 almost instantly if I leave the thinning off.

I agree and it's the same here. Don't think I will be using the "thinning" feature. Will live with the longer loading times for the bigger patches.

I think there is some specific issue with Spectrasonics instruments regarding loading times of patches, because I have my NI Kontakt libraries on the same SSD and NKI files of a couple GBs load within 5 seconds.

IIRC the size on disk of the C7 is 14gb. It’s insanely big. I still don’t know why my load times are quicker than yours though.

You are correct, I just checked and it is indeed 14 GB. Well, in that case the high loading times make sense. 2 GB in 5 seconds, so 14 GB in 35 seconds, which is what I am seeing.

The sequential read speed for my SSD is 3500 MB/s (actually getting this speed in performance measurement), so theoretically, it should take about 5 seconds to load fully once the initial latency/processing time is completed. There's more to it perhaps, otherwise I would expect it to load in about 10 seconds at maximum.

Well that's a funny thing - it used to be on an NVMe, then a while ago while fault-finding something else I switched STEAM to a humble 2TB MX500. I never put it back, performance seemed just the same.

Okay, so what I thought. I bought the NVMe because of speed, but also because I had an M.2 slot free so it was easy to install and the SSD was on sale for $100, so I thought why not. But the thought that there might not be a great difference between a normal SATA SSD and this seems to be true in this case. It is loading everything way faster than my previous "HDD", so it's an improvement. All my Arturia, NI Komplete, Spectrasonics and Nexus4 stuff is now on the NVMe SSD. Yay!
