I really object to UVI offering a monthly subscription as a way to demo their products. It sets a bad, costly precedent. I've refused to buy either Falcon, or (from another company) Omnisphere over their refusal to offer the free demos most other software producers provide.

FWIW, very few sample libraries are able to be demoed - it’s not like synths or effects. So imo that’s one of the better aspects of this, try a bunch-o-stuff and see what you like.

Otherwise it’s another optional subscription, so *shrug*.

I respect your opinion. Maybe I haven't tried many other pieces of software that include a sample library. But Steinberg has allowed a free demo for Halion and its sample libraries, which led to my purchasing it, and Krotos offers free demos for their sample-heavy products. So does Kilohearts for Phase Plant. And so does Vengeance Sound for Avenger. I think I could readily find other examples.

Roland Clouds subscription now looks pretty good!

Erm, no thanks

To the people actually considering subscriptions: please don't do it. They will try to make it all subscription only if too many fall for it.

Thanks in advance!

Let's get back to this in 10 years. If it's not subscription only by then it's because i interfered with their evil plan earlier :D

I actually believe you. No problem. I don't want to presume that especially you will do this some day. But you have to admit there is a certain inherent subversive threat by the idea of subscriptions in general.

For me the thing that makes a subscription work is the value. For music listening and TV, I have subscriptions that give me more than I could consume in a lifetime for a few bucks a month. The value for our family is INSANE. We'd be crazy NOT to do it.

So far, no music software company has made a true no-brainer subscription offer. An offer of so much in exchange for so little that people would get it on general principles. I know that value is relative to the individual. I'm just waiting for whichever of these companies decides they can't afford NOT to have me as a customer.
If every KVR member wrote one review a year we'd have 1340 reviews each day!

Excellent point.

Komplete Now is such a weak effort and poor value...looking forward to how Soundwide is gonna repackage all the stuff in a better subscription offering.

I guess some may save loads by trying a sub - just for one month - checking things inside out & decide ...hmm...Nahhh,
I don't need it ....I'm better off with stg I already have etc...that way there is no need to buy/try falcon for instance and then reselling it & paying a fee...pay to never own - music production wise - makes little/no sense :!: disagree if you like - I don't care

I don't think there has been a year in the past 20 years when I have spent less than $1000 year on music software... many years probably at least twice that.

I'm thinking as subs become the norm, I'll continue spending around $1000/year on music software via subs... but I'll have access to a LOT more creative tools... and I'll always have the latest versions too.
