AirWindows has a number of gain additive plugins that do different things with the type and nature of gain, with and without harmonics as well, and the price of his whole collection is free!

Does your modeler not have a gain input control?

Sure it does, this is for experimenting with guitar vst's, clean gain is able to take whatever is there and make it more. Some things add more colorization and some not, such as using a tube screamer pedal as just a volume boost, using a boss metal zone in a similar way to gain a bit of compression, eq, and a hair of distortion even.

Is materialism devouring your musical output? :ud:

Kilohearts have a super-simple gain plugin that comes with their free stuff.

Those BlueLab stuff looks promising, looking forward to trying it. Panogram seems like a useful tool. Their spectogram editor (ghost) gets me wondering as well.

Anybody have experience?

Doesn't your DAW have a built in Utility device with a gain? I know mine (Live) has had one for years.

+1 this

You get a useful high pass filter and a few other things too.

I also recomment using your DAWs' built in utility if it has one.
