Two short pieces that very much focus on ongoing movement - trying to get very subtle ebb and flow into the sustained sounds in particular...an attempt, I suppose, to lose a little bit of that sometimes all to perfect 'sample library' tone quality?

Hopefully nothing sounds too static despite the relatively simple nature of the musical content?

Nicely done. Very short as mentioned but engaging. The 2nd one, Silence and Tears (Goodbye Old Friend) in particular has a definite ebb and flow to it. It’s not static. It nicely sets a mood, but then redirects that somewhere more intriguing or hopeful by the end.

Very nice musical compositions.
Your recording is very nice, high quality sound.
I love your musicality, very simple and truly beautiful sounds.

ChameleonMusic,
Thank you for the reviews! Now your music: "The Space in Between": sounds like you are using high end plugins (both songs). Could be nice background music for a movie or TV show (for both songs). Nice melodies and Very nice overall (for both songs)! "Silence & Tears": this one sounds sad, but well done also.

"Couple of Miniatures" - I thought you had contrived to write an ode to a mini-bar

Thank you very much for the feedback - much appreciated.

Yes, the 2nd piece does end in a more hopeful place - glad you spotted that little twist in the tail!

Cheers Aaron - yeah, the 2nd one has a much more 'down' / sad tone to it without a doubt!

My parents had a bloomin' mini-bar way back in the 70s...I remember all those little bottles!

Bizarre thing is - they NEVER ever drank any of them! :)

Hi Mark,
really nice ones. I find the second piece very "successful". Very round and self-contained.
The instrumentation bothers me a bit on the first track. I don't know why, but my classical training is probably to blame. The question for me was; for who is this actually written for? At first it seems like a piece for piano, strings and some wind instruments. Then suddenly it's for "choir" and solo cello. That "jump" was too big for me. That probably doesn't bother most people. But I thought I'd write it down. Maybe you don't agree with that either - but maybe it's also some "food" for some further thoughts. (If I write: everything is great - that might not bring any progress :P ). Sound quality and mix is great as always.
it is better to have a track with some mistakes than a track without any soul

I agree about the 2nd one + that's very much the feedback I'm getting beyond KVR as well.

1st one - you're right that there is a significant shift as the cello / choir enter and I understand your point entirely. It was very much deliberate, but may not work for some listeners...you're not the first to mention it, although others have really enjoyed the sudden expansion.

I did originally keep the piano motif going as well alongside the cello / choir, but felt that it distracted from them - particularly rhythmically with the 5/4 time signature.

There are some links between the 2 sections:

Thematic material is all closely linked - particularly melodically.

The winds / strings continue unchanged in the background behind the choir / cello solo.

By the way the 'winds / strings / brass' are all hybrid synthesis / sample library timbres in my quest for subtle movement in those sustained parts....took bloody ages to do!

Thanks for the detailed feedback - very useful / helpful.

Yes, that might come from your classical background I suspect, as I do the same thing myself sometimes when listening to others...

As live performers it can be hard to get our heads around such pieces being just written as they are for VST / electronic sound sources and NOT for live performance as such. if I was writing this as a score for performance, I suspect I would do it quite differently.

I've listened to "The Space in Between" quite a few times, and I like it. I'm not concerned about the change in instrumentation. As a piece of "stand-alone" music, it works for me, and and I reckon it would be fine used in a movie/TV soundtrack setting.

Good work :)

Space in between: a very tasteful piece. Loved the blending of the choir in, subtle at first.

Silence and tears: love the textures and the "colour" of the winds. Ending on major was satisfying ending.
