61-key Midi control keyboard with action as least as good as my good old Roland XP-30?

I've had a Roland XP-30 synth forever. I no longer use the internal sounds, because they are pretty dated and working with the editing features is a PITA.

I basically have been using it as a midi controller for softsynths for years now. Down side is is has no knobs/sliders/pads to use with softsynths.
Up side is I find the key action to be awesome for synth playing.

I've tried (I think) one of the M-Audio keyboard a few years ago and the keys were noisy and a little sticky. Just terrible action.

What are some 61-key midi controllers out there that have really good key action? It needs to be at least as good as my XP-30 or I might as well keep on with what I've got and just deal with no extra control knobs.

Keep the XP-30 and get a midi control surface like the Novation ReMote Zero SL . They're pretty cheap secondhand ...

I bought the 25 key dual screen version 15-16 years ago ... still using it today.

I wish I knew…. I went to a guitar center and tried out a bunch of keybeds, and I hated all of them, even the ones people gush over (to be fair, their selection was somewhat limited)… ended up with a remote 61 mkiii, which isn’t awesome but isn’t bad.

Then again…. There is some nostalgia too, my favorite keybed was the ensoniq zr76, so I almost bought an mr76 locally… except I didn’t like its keys either maybe I’m just hard to please now….at least you can still compare it…

Definitely good advice to keep the XP-30 and get a control device to use with it

I would suggets to get a hardware synth as the argon by modal with 61 keys, you get an aceptable keybed and more controls

Personally, I prefer Fatar keybed above everything, so I’d suggest a NI Komplete Kontrol 61 mk2, or the older Novation ReMote SL mk1 or mk2. The newer mk3 replaced the Fatar keybed with a cheaper one.

You won't find a midi controller, as good as a workstation keybed. When your workstation was new,it costed a pretty penny. Keep it, and just use a nice desktop controller. You'll be happy you did.

Looking at the Midi implementation chart, it seems the 4 sliders x 3 « banks » (filter, level and controller) transmit midi CCs so they can be used to remote control soft synths. Volume slider too. So you can keep your Roland keybed !
