Well, the OP locked a thread that people were enjoying, I don't get that, but whatever, we'll just pick up and continue in a new thread.

Oh right, that's a shit set-up for sure. As Jamcat says, S1 adds them (as Aux channels) on an as required basis.
I feel that some additional compromise with respect to the actual hardware would improve the U/I.
Absolutely.

Did Reason even have a mixer then? I tried it out when it was released (v1.0) and I don't recall it having a separate mixer at all, just something basic that sat in the rack with everything else. But that was a long time ago so my recollection could be faulty.
Reason has always had a Mixer in the Rack. It was resoundingly terrible prior to the release of the separate mixer in Record and then later In Reason 6. The EQs are useless and appear to have been coded in about 1995 by a high school intern.

I don't get it either. Why do people do that? Power trippin' freaks!

I can't use ugly sounding plugins... unless I'm wanting something ugly, in which case I guess I prefer one, which happens sometimes when I want something to be a certain ugly way!

But appearance, hm, I like nice looking stuff but the sound and function leads for me

Good looking plugins sound better though. So there you are.

They certainly sound better to my earballs

This is a fugly GUI. Looks like a screenful of trodden-on COVID viruses. Must admit Fabfilter have toned down their dayglo ugliness - they're almost usable nowadays.

^This sort of reminds me of Audiomodern's new free plugin, Panflow. I don't mind it but I know some people take objection to its washed out bluish look.

If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, baffle 'em with bullshit.

After being on these forums for 15 years, I can tell when the ship is going down.

Gah, you best know what you're doing before you bust out any shade of purple!

I know these aren't effects, but Synth1 to me will always be the king of butt-ugly UIs. It looks like it came out in the 80s.

Dexed is another.

The good thing about Synth 1, though, is that you can completely customise it because it's GUI is all vector-based. That, of course, is also why it doesn't look as pretty as a bitmap-based GUI full of subtle gradients and beveled edges and the like. And, to be fair, Synth 1 almost does date back to the 90s.

Yeah, and to be fair, even though I think that it's ugly today, it looks much better than a lot of stuff from that era.

The thing about Synth1's single-page GUI is that it is one of the simplest, cleanest and easiest-to-use GUIs a developer could possibly have ever come up with.

True dat. In it's time it was a true revelation and 20 years later it still has plenty to offer, although I have to admit I've not used it in a long time.

I could not use Melda plugins, I would not call them ugly, they are what the are, I just don't like them, maybe also because often too many features, less is more
