Doesn’t exist! I would guess that some Korg’s can get close (since the OASYS PCI could do that sharp/pleasantly harsh sound) but I haven’t spent enough time with them to know which ones.
Still running a pair of Oasys PCI cards here. They don't get a lot of use but I turn to them for inspiration from time to time.

I have two Oasys PCI cards as well. Haven't fired them up in a while.
Paired mine with two SW1000XG cards with AN and DX daughter boards. Altogether, they generate a good noise.

I have a couple of Macintosh G4s that house them and spare converted server with DC powersupply and fanspeed controls but it wasn't as stable as the G4s. Nostalgia.

Really? I never managed to get anything of use out of my SH101. I bought it because it was so ridiculously cheap for a brand new synth in 1984 but I never got anything worthwhile from it. It was so bad that I didn't even think about buying another Roland synth for 30 years. 30 years later, I was equally disappointed with the Boutique synths I bought.

I guess you have to look for exactly that sound to appreciate it. It’s basically one of the basis for the original goa trance sound.

Don't get me started on how completely f**king ridiculous that is. Imagine how much better Goa Trance might sound if they'd used something decent way back at the start.

Nord modular G1 user here for 20+ years , still going strong , fantastic synth with the lovely nord 2 sound and a helluva lot more
It's synth for tweakers , sound designers , players etc...
Bones , don't try it ..it's not for you ..just stick to your uno and mininova

It sure wouldn't sound like goa trance I love, so I'm quite happy that's what they had. Imagine using some phat Moog for those goa arpeggios

Btw. that reminded me, Poly D kind of blew me away too when I was playing with one in the shop. Incredible raw sound. I just didn't see the use for it in the music I like to make.

The Nord Lead has always divided people a lot. I always found them quite "bad" sounding.. but I did have a lot of fun with the modular though (as I can push that into completely different territory).

There are things that can do Goa/acid/trance type sounds, but the 303 and 101 (with other Roland synths) have that squelchy rubbery acid sound that other synths still struggle to achieve.

The 101 bass is simple, but also round and massive over a PA.

A lot of the early techno also used a 101. Yes, kind of limited, it's a pretty basic synth. But it's very classic sounding still.

Sorry it didn't work for you when you had one.

I used to totally agree with this but I have heard some really great acid lines out of the Moog Subsequent 37, so now I just agree, but with that one exception!

I'm sorry but I have never in my life gears a sound out of any Roland synth I'd describe as "Squelchy".

The 101 bass is simple, but also round and massive over a PA.

Not as massive as 100 other synths would be, I can assure you. It would never in a million years have occurred to me to use my 101 for bass, it just couldn't cut it compared to my ARP Axxe or even my Korg Delta.
